Stripped Bare

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom

After 40 weeks and one day of pregnancy, I'm feeling vulnerable...

Emotionally...

Physically...

Spiritually...

The burden of knowing this baby is coming -- "sooner rather than later," as my OB likes to say -- but isn't here yet is beyond pale. Women who deliver at 38 or 39 weeks are lucky; they remain blissfully unaware of how emotionally taxing that last week of pregnancy truly is.

I've decided against an induction. The fact that I was 2 cm and 50% effaced at my 39 week appointment (last Wednesday) disqualified me for the induction study my OB's office is currently conducting. (The fact that today -- 5 days after that appointment -- I am STILL 2 cm and 50% is just irritating.) Induction will not be a consideration until I reach 41 weeks, which (sadly) is now just 6 days away.

I did have my OB strip my membranes. I had that done when I reached 40 weeks with G, and had previously vowed that I wouldn't do it again... but my urge to deliver this baby naturally (and immediately) won out over any remaining patience I may have had.

So here I am, stripped bare in every possible way. I delivered G 51 hours after my OB stripped my membranes; given that timeline, Baby C should arrive around lunchtime Wednesday.

C'mon kid... I'm ready.

I remember this feeling well ... hang in there, mama. Praying for these last minutes/hours/days you have with G. :) Can't wait to hear the good news!

Dang it! I was hoping that you'd already gone into labor and that's why there hadn't been a recent post!

Good luck, Elizabeth! Sending good juju your way!

My son was born at exactly 41 weeks without any medical intervention (to get things started anyway) and it was by far the absolute worst week of my life. Hang in there, I have no words of wisdom other than this is the hardest part, and it really will be over soon :)

Whew- I can not imagine being 40 full weeks (with c-sections the farthest I went was 38-39) saying a prayer for you! hope everything goes smoothly and can't wait to meet your newest edition! :)

Oh, the waiting is so hard! Especially if you are uncomfortable and of course READY by this time... come on little C, get ready to say "hello" to the world and in less than 51 hours to help mom out! Good luck and congratulations!

Oh good luck...I am one of those lucky women who never went the full term. My son was two weeks early and my daughter was a planned c-section a week and half early. Good luck and I will be waiting news of your newest arrival. For what its worth you definetly don't look that preggers in the picture

Congratulations on the arrival of baby boy, I am so excited for you guys!
