Who are you?

Who who who who?

I really want to know!

Sorry, I'm done channeling "The Who"!

This blog carnival is truly as easy as it sounds...

Each week, The (Un)Experienced Mom and I will pick a category, then ask you to share your Top 3 thoughts on it. We hope you'll play along with us!

This week, we want to know...

If you could be a character in any movie, not the actor or actress but the character, who would it be and which movie?

This question was also submitted by a blogging friend, Scott @ "This Daddy's Blog". It was too much fun to pass up!

#3) Princess Mia (Anne Hathaway) in "The Princess Diaries"-- preferrably, the sequel (when she's a little bit more grown up and not as gawky). Because, quite frankly, who doesn't secretly want to be royalty?

#2) Christine in "Phantom Of The Opera" (here played by Emmy Rossum). First, the costumes in this period-piece are absolutely fantastic. Second, I'd love to be able to sing like "Christine". But most of all, the story is so haunting-- in the Gothic fashion-- that even 18 years after seeing this musical on stage for the first time, it still gives me chills.

And movie character I would most like to be is...

#1) Jody Sawyer from "Center Stage". Yeah, she's a wet noodle who takes an emotional beating from "Cooper Nielsen" (aka, the amazingly talented Ethan Stiefel) for most of the movie, but when she puts on this red costume and does fouette after pirouette after fouette in the closing dance number, I'm always in awe. Just to have that type of talent!!!

If you could be a character in any movie, not the actor or actress but the character, who would it be and which movie?

Remember, only link up if you are posting about this on your OWN BLOG!

Today... I Consider Myself... The Laziest Woman... On The Face Of The Earth

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom in ,

Earlier this month, I did something I never thought I'd do. Something lazy. Something wasteful. Something completely frivolous.

I hired a cleaning crew.

This sin of sloth began innocently enough... as a pamphlet in the mail. The slogan on this mass-mailing read only:

"Life's too short to clean your own house."

Well, a big, fat AMEN to that.

I started fantacizing about what I would do with more free time. I would spend hours reading books, light stuff like Emily Giffin and Sophie Kinsella; meaty stuff like James Joyce and Henry Ibsen. I would go to the gym more, and really start taking care of my body. G & I would spend long hours at the park, running, skipping, sliding and swinging to our hearts content.

So I made the call.

I have joined the legions of women who are completely able-- and yet, at the same time, unable-- to clean their own homes. I have joined the group that picks things up around the house on the day the cleaning crew is set to arrive, just so I don't look like a complete slob. I have become one of the women I once loathed; the type of woman who wastes her hard earned money to pay someone else to do her own dirty work.

What is your least favorite chore? Or do you actually like cleaning your home?

Queen For The Week: April 25th

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom in

She's a "Queen For The Week" who is decidedly zen...

Gina @ Namaste By Day!

Honestly, I don't know how Gina does it. First of all, her blog is just as cute as can be... and so is she! She also has a history of creating other beautiful projects; namely, her son, L. She'll be adding to her family later this year-- baby #2 is on the way, and Gina is brave enough to share her belly shots with us! By day, she's a speech-language pathologist, who works with children; and this girl is dedicated to her job.

Gina was nominated to receive this crown by another blogger, Anna @ Companion To The Wind. Thanks, Anna, for giving Gina the attention she deserves! You BOTH rock!

So go, go NOW to Gina's blog and tell her I sent you!

And this is the 8th week in our rotation, and that means one of my Queens has just won a $10 Starbucks gift card... Random.org picked #8... and that's Gina! So Gina, a double congrats to you! Email me so I can get your prize to you.

Just a reminder, new nominations are still on hold. I will be backed up with old nominations through the next two months or so. I will let you know as soon as that backlog eases up, and I can accept new nominations!

It's time to shop til you drop!

This blog carnival is truly as easy as it sounds...

Each week, The (Un)Experienced Mom and I will pick a category, then ask you to share your Top 3 thoughts on it. We hope you'll play along with us!

This week, we want to know...

Where are your Top 3 favorite places to shop?

This question was submitted by another blogging friend, "Heather". I have a nasty shopping habit from way back, but right now, we're broke... so... I figured, I'd go on a virtual shopping trip!

#3) Banana Republic. Now, to be honest, I think some of their stuff is overpriced based on the quality. A few years ago, I bought a cute "going out" shirt from BR, which promptly disintegrated after it's 3rd time in the wash. But, I've also bought classic, timeless pieces that-- even after 3, 5, 7 years-- are still staples of my current wardrobe.

#2) Monkee's. No, not like the 60's British pop band (which, in my opinion, was a watered-down, less-edgy version of the Beatles...). Monkee's is a chain of women's clothing stores located primarily in the Southeast (and just for all you stalker-types... this is NOT the storefront of my local shop!). They sell everything from Lilly Pulitzer to Diane von Furstenberg to Jack Rogers... namely, brands I can't afford and have no business buying in the first place! But the sales staff is always so kind, and has no problem letting me try on gorgeous (and expensive!) outfits during my lunch break.

And my go-to place to shop is...

#1) Target. Ahhhh, yes, Tar-jay if you are French (or just a highly sophisticated shopper). I adore Target for so many reasons. Almost every piece of clothing I've bought over the past year comes from this giant, big box retailer (although, if you ever see me in person, I will deny it!). Same with G's wardrobe (not DH's, though; they never seem to have pants in his size!). I also buy most of my cosmetics, Christmas and birthday gifts, electronics, and-- sometimes-- grociers here! Fortunately, there's a Tar-jay just 3.7 miles down the road (not like I've ever calculated it, or anything)!

I Am A Hypocrit

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom in , ,

Before I had kids... even into G's first year... I used to roll my eyes at children-- not babies, but children-- who used binkies (pacifiers, what-have-you) in public. I was a strict believer that children should be weaned from binkies before they're old enough to depend on it for comfort. So, in my ideal little first-time-mommy world, G was going to be completely weaned from her favorite binky by six months old.

Ha.

Haha.

Hahahaha.

Yeah right!

G is now 19 months old, and more addicted to her binky today than ever before. There are at least eight of assorted sizes, shapes, and colors, in her crib on any given night. She cannot fall asleep without her favorite (a lime green one with a long, cylindrical nipple) stuck snuggly between her little lips. And if she wakes up in the middle of the night to discover she's misplaced said-binky... well, I pity the fool sleeping next to the monitor in our master bedroom (ME)!

My saving grace is that she ONLY requires her binky at bedtime and during naps. She doesn't use it during the rest of the day, so I'll never be that mom in public at whom my former self would be rolling her eyes. It's my dirty little secret. And it makes me feel like a major hypocrit.

Now, I wonder how-- if-- I'll ever be able to take it away from her without destroying her world. I know that sounds liiiiiittle over the top, but I'm serious! I distinctly remember a particular episode of "Jon & Kate Plus 8" (back during their "happier times"), when they took the binkies away from the little kids. Chaos ensued. I'm not sure if I can handle that! So, gosh darn it, if it helps her sleep, then G can have her binky until she's six.

Was your child ever addicted to the binky? If so, how old was he/she when you took it away? How did you do it, and how did your child react?

Queen(s) For The Week: April 18th

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom in

Who says there can only be one "Queen For The Week"?

Well, technically me...
But since I make the rules,
I can break the rules!

This week, we have co-Queens!

The Noelle @ Lil Bits And Pieces Of Me...

... and Natalie @ Hi, My Name's Mommy

Both of these bloggers are moms of two... Noelle has two boys, Natalie has one girl and a brand new baby boy! They were also both nominated to be featured on my blog... by last week's Queen, The Red Headed Mama!

So go, go NOW to BOTH of their blogs and tell her I sent you!

Just a reminder, next week is the last of our two-month cycle, so that's when I'll be using Random.org to give a $10 Starbucks gift card to one of our lucky Queens!

I am still back-logged on nominations, so please hold off on sending any new Queen requests until further notice. Thank you!

Remember that website, "Hot or Not"?

Who is on your "Hot" list?

<center><a href="http://confessionsfromaworkingmom.com/" title="Top 3 Thursday"><img src="http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af194/iamconfessing/Top3Thursday.jpg"/></a></center>

This blog carnival is truly as easy as it sounds...

Each week, The (Un)Experienced Mom and I will pick a category, then ask you to share your Top 3 thoughts on it. We hope you'll play along with us!

This week, we want to know...

Who are your Top 3 "guilty" celebrity crushes?

This question was submitted by one of my blogging friends, "Much More Than Mommy". She has been dying for an excuse to unveil her guiltiest celebrity crush... you must go check out her blog to see who it is! Here's my list:

#3) Mark Salling, from Glee. As you should know unless you live under a rock, Glee returned from its winter hiatus this week to brighten up my dreary little life. And Mark, dear Mark, it is you in all your, "I-play-a-16-year-old-but-am-really-27"-ness, that makes this show an absolute can't miss for me. That, and the half dozen all-out musical numbers in each episode. Gosh, I love that show...

#2) Lebron James. I'm sure you're scratching your heads, asking yourselves, "She goes from a boy-band-worthy actor to the NBA's biggest star?" (Shut up, you Kobe fans; Lebron's about to take your boy to TOWN!). I am a native Clevelander, and LBJ (the basketball player, not the dead president) has single-handedly resurrected the roundball in my hometown. There's a funny little video mocking my hometown (you can find it by clicking here-- I promise, it's worth it, especially if you're from any "rust belt" city!), that says our whole economy is built on LBJ. And it's true.

And my all-time, no-doubt-about-it, guilty-as-sin celebrity crush is...

#1) Peyton Manning. Yes, there's something about his goofy, massive forehead, crooked smile, and Southern twang that just melts my heart. I love him so much, that I almost named "G" after him. Actually, I did. You'll never know what "G" stands for, but I will tell you that her middle name is Peyton, and YES, she is named after the Indianapolis QB. If it wouldn't be repetitive (and boring), Peyton would have been #1, #2, #3, and #17 on this list. He is my one and only (well, after DH, of course).

Who are your Top 3 "guilty" celebrity crushes?

Read It Forward: Vol. I

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom in ,

THIS BOOK GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED.

Make sure to come back on Monday, May 10th for our next "Read It Forward" party! Remember, you can add new or used books to the blog hop!

***************************************

Just when you thought I was done with bloggy gimmicks, I am back at it with something brand-(been there)-spanking-(done that)-new.

Read It ForwardFor the past week, my blog's headline has been advertising this "Read It Forward" campaign. I must say, I think it's pretty darn cool. As a working mom, most of my life is spent working (hence the title of this blog) or being a mom (again, see blog's title). But when I get a little me time, the first place I head is the book store. But dang, buying a new book every week (ok, ok, that's an exaggeration-- it's more like every month, if I'm lucky) is expensive.

That's where the idea for this new monthly blog party comes in. Every month, Foursons and I will host a party that gives you the chance to (1) review one of your favorite reads, (2) pass it on to one of your blog readers, and if luck is on your side, (3) get a new book to read in return! Here's how it works:

If you'd like to receive the books we have on our blogs today, leave a comment. The winner will be selected using Random.org, just like a standard giveaway. If you have a book you'd like to give away on your own blog, please write up a short review, grab our button, and add your name to the InLinkz.

Once a month, we'll host this blog hop to give you a chance to pass a book you love on to another blogger. All we ask is...

1) If you receive a book from another blogger during this book hop, please promise that you'll ultimately pass it on using this blog hop as well. It can be the next month, or two months, or three months down the road-- not everyone has a whole bunch of time to read, so the timeline is yours to decide!

2) Once you receive a book, make sure to add your blog name and URL to the inside cover. That way, the people who receive that book in the future will know where it's been.

3) You can add a book to the blog hop at any time. So if you don't have a book you'd like to give away this month, don't worry! You can add something next month, or the month after, or the month after!

Now, here's the book I'm giving away!

The Last Summer (Of You And Me) by Ann Brashares

You may be thinking, where have I heard that author's name before? Brashares is actually the author of the very popular "Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants" series (which has since been turned into several movies starring Blake Lively, among others). This is Brashares's first foray into more adult literature.

At first, I was skeptical... I thought, surely, that there's no way an author who so accurately and eloquently described and analyzed the female teenage mind could move on to a different genre. I was wrong. This story had me absolutely captivated. There were times when my stomach turned to knots, as the two sisters at the center of this book (Alice & Riley) waged a silent war against each other, and the man at the center of this book: Paul. I loved him. I hated him. I wanted to passionately rip his clothes off (just like Alice) and make love to him. I also wanted to wring his neck.

But unlike the last book I told you about (damn you, Beatrice!), this book does have a happy ending. I hope (one of you!) will enjoy it as much as I have!

Just leave a comment on this post. I'll pick a winner using Random.org (sorry, U.S. residents only!), and announce the winner on Thursday.

Queen For The Week: April 11th

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom in

After a week's hiatus for Easter, "Queen For The Week" is back! And she is...

The Red Headed Mama @ My Life With Three Boys And A Fat Cat!

The Red Headed Mama's household... as you've already figured out... includes three boys-- her husband, whom she refers to as "HH" among them. And let's just get it out there... HH has quite a sex drive, which one of the little boys has seen in action. She also hosts a weekly blog hop, where the rules are simply this: answer the question! Recently, she shared how her parents influenced her own parenting skills. But my favorite part about The Red Headed Mama is something we both share in common-- brutal honesty, and a no-holds-barred mentality on our blogs.

So go, go NOW to The Red Headed Mama's blog and tell her I sent you!

The Napkin, The Melon, And The Giveaway

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom in ,

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED.

*************************************

I don't know about you, but this week has flown by... so much so, that I actually forgot to write up this final giveaway post!

I know every Thursday night, when I leave work, I breathe a big sigh of relief. You heard me right-- Thursday night. No, it's not because I have a 4-day work week (I wish!). It's because 6pm Thursday is when I can really start thinking, "Thank Goodness It's Friday."

I imagine that mentality is pretty much the same across the board, whether you're a working mom, or a mom that works hard at home. We all look forward to the weekend (although some of us with decidedly more fervor than others). So when I came across an email in my inbox asking me to review an advanced copy of the new pseudo-reality-workplace-but-could-be-anywhere novel, "The Napkin, The Melon, And The Monkey"-- and pass a second copy along to one of my readers-- I couldn't refuse.

The book-- written by Barbara Burke-- chronicles the saga of Olivia, a working stiff who is bored stiff at her job. Very much like how I've been feeling lately, she feels utterly out of place at work, and unmotivated to do what's necessary to change it. I actually read this book about a month ago, but it wasn't until what was-- by all accounts-- a very dismal annual review about two and a half weeks ago that the lessons I learned in this book really hit home. It's kind of like "The Secret", but for the working woman. And while, yes, it is situated in the workplace, I definitely think it's message-- of everyone working as part of a greater whole-- is universal, and can be applied to your job as a mother and wife as well.

So, here goes the last giveaway of my blog birthday party (no crying that it's almost over; it's my party, and I'll cry if I want to):

How to enter:
1) Leave a comment on this post, telling me your biggest frustration on the job or at home
2) Follow this blog (new and old followers count)
3) Add my regular blog button to your page
4) Add my blog to your blog roll on your page

Please leave a separate comment for EACH entry, otherwise it will not count!

Everyone who added their names to the MckLinky I posted last Monday is automatically entered... if you added the "Blog Birthday Bash" button to your blog prior to today, then you already have a SECOND automatic entry (provided you added your name to the MckLinky, which is now CLOSED).

This giveaway ends at 11:59pm TONIGHT. I'll post the winner tomorrow. Good luck!

I was given a copy of "The Napkin, The Melon, And The Monkey" for the purpose of this review and giveaway. The winner will be selected randomly using this website. Winner(s) will have 48 hours from notification to claim their prize. Sorry, U.S. & Canada residents only.

Top 3 Thursday: April 8th (Birthday Edition)

THESE GIVEAWAYS ARE NOW CLOSED

********************************

It's a very special birthday edition of Top 3 Thursday... and if you've never played along before, today is the perfect time to join in. I'm bribing enticing you with a pair of giveaways!

<center><a href="http://confessionsfromaworkingmom.com/" title="Top 3 Thursday"><img src="http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af194/iamconfessing/Top3Thursday.jpg"/></a></center>

This blog carnival is truly as easy as it sounds...

Each week, The (Un)Experienced Mom (who is on vacation, and not posting today!) and I will pick a category, then ask you to share your Top 3 thoughts on it. We hope you'll play along with us!

This week, in honor of my Blog Birthday Bash, we're I'm asking...

What are your Top 3 favorite ages?
(Or, your Top 3 favorite ages for your kids?)

As always, I'll go first (and don't forget to check out the giveaway details below!!!):

#3) 14. Yeah, I know, that sounds like an odd age. I was in the midst of my (prolonged) gawky-teenager period, but it was still a good year. I started high school, and had my first "love"-- a boy named Ray who went to a rival high school, whom I pined over all year long. Sigh. It was pure romance. Actually, at the time, I remember thinking it was pure hell, but looking back on my freshman year with rose-colored glasses, it was the last year of my "childhood" innocense... and it makes me yearn for those days once more.

#2) 21. Yes, this is so cliched, and I almost decided not to write this down. But, in fact, I LOVED being 21. The year started with me celebrating my 21st birthday at a frat house party (the same frat house where I met DH 5 months earlier), where I danced with two members of the Duke basketball team while the band sang me "Happy Birthday". Sigh. I was such a rock star. The year ended with DH proposing to me, and about a month later, my graduation. To me, my 21st year was chalk full of halcyon days, filled with great friends, great fun, and the love of my life.

And my most favorite age is (was)...

#1) 26. This was the year I gave birth to G, and met several of the women who have become my best friends. In a way, 26 was a year of new beginnings, as I welcomed so many people into my world. I also enjoyed 4 months of maternity leave during my 26th year, which gave me the most amazing opportunity to stay home with my beautiful baby girl. It was a time I will never, ever forget.

What are your Top 3 favorite ages?

Wine-Lover's Giveaway

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom in , , , ,

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

****************************************

One of my favorite new memes out there is Shell's weekly blog hop...

And today it just so happens that my regularly scheduled post-- AND my previously scheduled "Blog Birthday Bash" giveaway-- have a lot to do with pouring.

First, the post...

I think we're probably all familiar with the phrase, "Don't cry over spilled milk". But I don't think the saying holds true if you've ever been a nursing mother. Between the hormones and the effort, breastfeeding (and more specifically, pumping) takes a lot of effort. I distinctly remember a day last year when I was pumping on my lunch break at work, and produced 8 ounces of liquid gold... only to spill it all over the counter. It felt like such a waste.

Over the weekend, DH finally gave me the official, 100% green light for baby #2. I was the one pushing for it for months, but it was seeing G so desperate to play with the other kids in our neighborhood (she's too small, they're 8-10 years older than her), and his belief that only WE can create the perfect playmate that finally got him to acquiesce.

The self-appointed queen of indecisiveness, I'm now wondering if I have it in me. I'm not talking about whether I have it in me to go through another 8 months of the ups and downs of trying to conceive; I'm not talking about the 9 months of pregnancy; I'm not talking about the long, sleepless nights when there's a newborn in the house. I'm talking about whether or not I have it in me to nurse another child for a year.

I know there are tons of mothers out there who didn't nurse at all, with any of their kids, and I completely understand why. It's so much easier to prepare a bottle without having to take off half your clothes, strap some out-of-this-world looking gadget to your chest, and spend 20 minutes listening to the oddly maddening hum of your pump just to produce a serving of milk. But-- because I nursed G until 14 months-- I feel like if I didn't nurse a second child, it would be like I played favorites...

Moms with two or more children, did you do things differently with #2 than with #1 (or #3 than #2)? If so, why? Did you have any guilt about that choice?

Now, you've listened to me whine about my worries... so let me help you "pour" the perfect glass of wine!

Today's item up for grabs in my Blog Birthday Bash is one of these beauties. It's a vintage wine bottle topper from "Knobstoppers". If you've never heard of this company, you're missing out. All their products are incredibly chic, and add a touch of flair to your kitchen. I'll be giving away one of these finial toppers to a lucky reader!

Here's how to enter!

#1) Visit the Knobstoppers web page, then come back here and tell me which of their products you like best!

#2) Follow my blog and leave a comment. Old and new followers count!

#3) Add my regular blog button to your page and leave a comment to tell me

#4) Add my blog to your blog roll on your page and leave a comment to tell me

Please leave a separate comment for EACH entry, otherwise it will not count!

Everyone who added their names to the MckLinky I posted last Monday is automatically entered... if you added the "Blog Birthday Bash" button to your blog prior to today, then you already have a SECOND automatic entry (provided you added your name to the MckLinky, which is now CLOSED).

This giveaway ends at 11:59pm TONIGHT. I'll post the winner tomorrow. Good luck!

Congrats to the first four winners of my day of birthday giveaways! Now, we're moving on to the next group of giveaways... another product I had the pleasure of trying out in my own home.

Anyone who has ever had a young child underfoot while trying to get ready for the day knows how tough it can be. Between brushing my teeth (and using mouthwash, LOL!), styling my hair, and getting dressed, my daughter has usually lost all patience by the time I move on to make up. For a long time, I let G have free reign over my make up drawer, just to keep her occupied. Bad idea. I ended up with make up brushes that looked just like her baby doll's crazy hair.

The Brush GuardThat's where The Brush Guard comes in. These cool little attachments slide right over the top of your make up brushes-- everything from your massive blush brush to your eye shadow brushes-- to keep them neat, clean, un-tangled, and in pristine condition! They're now a staple in my make up drawer... and they can be a staple in your make up bag, too!

The Brush Guard is giving three variety packs away to my readers. Each is a $5.50 value! To enter, just leave a comment on this post (MckLinky participants already have two extra entries, but can enter again with a comment!) for the next three hours. I'll announce a winner at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm! The earlier you comment, the better your chances of winning!

I was given a complimentary variety pack from "The Brush Guard" for the purpose of this review and giveaway. The winners will be selected using Random.org. Winner(s) will have 48 hours from notification to claim their prize. Sorry, U.S. residents only.
