A Little Bit Of This, And A Little Bit Of That

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom in , ,

So I am doing something a little different today... I'm actually blogging in the pure, "in-the-moment" way I set out to do almost 10 months ago. Yeah, go figure. After almost a year, I'm back to square one.

You see, my work has been intermittently blocking "Blogger" for the past few weeks, meaning some days I can log on to my blogger account (and YOUR blogs), and other days it's prohibited content. I also cannot visit BabyCenter.com, VictoriasSecret.com, or the Powerball website some days at work, yet I've never had an issue accessing true porn on my work computer (NOT that I've tried, but I have received malicious emails that unwittingly steer me to pornographic sites; I guess I'm gullible, or maybe just naive).

Anyway, so I haven't been able to "waste time" at work lately, which is rather disappointing. It means I actually have to do, well, work while I'm here. Yuck. The thing is, I'm pretty efficient at my job. I think I bragged in one post a few months back that I'd learned to do my 9-hour-a-day job in just 5 hours. That leaves me with 4 hours every day to kill.

So when I finished writing tonight's newscast even earlier than usual this afternoon, I tried to log on to blogger and VOILA! I was actually granted access. But I really didn't have any intent of writing a post. That's why you've got this crazy, stream-of-consciousness thing MckMama (just because I haven't done a Not Me! Monday in months doesn't mean I'm not up to date on her and her little MckFlurry!) does so well.

Anyway, so here's what's going on my wacky, insane mind-- unedited, unabbreviated (sorry!), and posted IN REAL TIME (unlike most all of my posts, which are written in advanced and scheduled to auto-publish most days at 10:15am):

-Because I work in a newsroom, there are TVs (dozens of TVs!) on around me 24/7. Right now, it's the middle of the day, so there are a bunch of soaps on. Anybody else think the quality of the video on soap operas has really taken a hit in recent years? "As The World Turns" looks like it was shot by an 8-year-old using a hand-held flipcam. I'm pretty sure the video my news station puts on the air looks better.

-Speaking of TV news, I have fallen in love with a new blog. Because it's not on blogger, I can read it WHENEVER, WHEREVER I want, even at work. I have no idea who writes it-- it's written anonymously-- but I can't get enough of her. Maybe you won't find it as funny as I do, but I urge you to take a look.

-DH & I leave for our cruise in 19 days (yes, I am counting down; I've actually been counting down since this trip was 138 days away). We WERE supposed to leave 18 days from now, to spend a romantic night in a historic hotel the night before we shipped out (that term sounds entirely too military, but "embarked" sounded wrong). But I cancelled those plans-- without telling DH-- because I couldn't stand the thought of spending another night away from G. It's the first time we're leaving her overnight (for 6 nights, actually), and even though my mom is coming down to stay with her, I am still sad/scared about going somewhere without her.

-Is anybody else as concerned about this whole oil spill in the Gulf as I am? And no, it's not just because I'm going on a cruise in a few weeks. I just find it so repulsive that we have this technology that we don't know how to fix when it's broke. It's so socially irresponsible to me that a company should be allowed to use a technology when they have no plans to stop it from causing massive damage should something go awry.

Oh yeah, and I should use this time to mention the great giveaway I've got going on right now. It's a $25 gift certificate to "Thirty-One", courtesy of one of my amazing readers, Amanda. Click HERE for three different ways to enter!

I love and prefer the in-the-moment stream-of-consciousness posts!

I love the randomosity!

And I went to the Local News Queen -- I can see how you can spend so much time there! I *especially* love her post about men and their fantasy leagues!!!

I too blog at work on my "down time". I certainly hope that someday, once I learn my new job, that I will have down time again :-)

So excited for you and your vacation...I have only left my kids over night for less than 24 hours..so I give props to you girlfriend!!!

Woo Hoo...good thing blogger worked today! When I used to work, I could finish my work in 2 hours. The rest of the day was so boring. I had not discovered the fun world of blogging yet!

Wow, a cruise! How exciting!

All my blogs are "in real time" and unedited. I like to say I blog in the Raw. My hubbs told me that sounds dirty, so I guess he likes it.

You will do fine on your vaca- you will possibly be so busy that you won't have a moment to spare worrying about G.

well yeah for being able to log in....boo on sometimes not being able to!!!

How fun about your cruise that will be so fabulous! I still have not left my kids for more than a couple days (well only once I did that and it was only one of them, so I guess that doesn't count) but anyway ya even when its my mom I get a little worried!

My blogs are in real time too, unless I have a guest poster, LOL. It's no wonder I don't get many comments, Haha.

I'm just stopping in to say hi, since i haven't been by in a while. I added your badge to my blogroll so I can get over here more often, cuz I love your blog.

Enjoy your cruise...and I would be the same way leaving my kids at such a young age. My oldest still has seperation anxiety...drives me crazy now at age 9 (almost 10).

Love your post today! :)

Have a great time on your well-deserved vacation! I know you will have a great time, and your mom will LOVE having G all to herself!

I am very concerned about this oil spill, especially because it is hitting very close to home now. Oil has started washing up on our beautiful Texas shores.... :(

HATE those internet filters! Mine just locked me out of blogger this week-you give me hope that maybe I'll get occasional access...I have discovered that if you log into google reader you can at least read them-but not comment :-(

random thoughts are my favorite posts to read!!

You will have a great time on your trip and you'll be home and back to the grind before you know it..enjoy the time away. Well deserved!

The oil spill makes me sick it is going to effect my fisherman and their families who we work hard for ...ALso I love the beach and now it is in danger...It is irresponsible in the worst way!

I wondered where you have been. Lucky you, going on a cruise. I'm sure that G will be just fine. She will be in good hands with Grandma.

I am appalled at the oil spill and what it's doing to our waters. As if we don't have enough problems with the economy, now oil spills. I am saddened that they have been reporting that wildlife are showing signs of problems.

I hate it when work blocks blogger! I get my work done, so when I have downtime, I wanna blog, darnit!
Enjoy your cruise....we loved ours, I wish we could do it again.

I grew up on the Gulf Coast, and I am heartbroken over this. I just imagine taking my daughter back to the place where she was born in a few year and finding it ruined and still unrecovered. So sad.

I caught a few minutes of a soap opera the other day, and I have to say that I agree with you. They are getting worse.

I'm leaving town this weekend and even though my daughter will be with my husband the whole time, and I'm excited to work on my blog-a-thon project and spend some time with a friend I haven't seen for years, I am a little sad. Leaving is hard!

have a wonderful time on your cruise!! Sorry I've not commented lately! hope things are going well!

My entire Spring Break, I panicked that I would come back to blocked Blogger. I bet come fall, I won't be able to access it. We'll see!

Did you ever do those free writing exercises in high school? It always cracked me up what came out. And it's fun to read!

i've been reading, just not commenting... sorry. haven't been able to get around to other blogs much... busy, then when i have the time, i don't feel like it. i'm a bum.

miss you!

I'm happy to see this type of post. I'm really more interested in you rather than all the blog contests, reading clubs, and blog questionnaires. I am concerned about the oil spill too! Where are you cruising? So exciting!!!

aw man, what a bummer you have to work now :) haha. I haven't heard from you in a while, and thought that something was holding you back.
Cruise, sounds so nice. I want to go again. It's only been like a month and a half since I've been home, and now it feels like a year. The weather has been awful here.
Anyway, I made a mothers day video last week, and you were a part of it. You should check it out :)
Hope you had a great mothers day!

You will do JUST fine being away from G! You'll be able to call and get updates right? This time last year I was getting ready to leave both my babies for a week in Maui...so I know the anxiety well! But know tha your mom will do a fabulous job....look at you!!! Enjoy!! I'm super jealous! No vacations for me on the horizon!

Almost cruise time, how exciting!!!! I cannot believe you haven't spent a night away from G yet and she's 1.5. I am DREADING my first night away from our son, coming up next weekend. I wish I could wait 1.5 years before the first one, honestly....and it's for 2 nights in a row, too. NOT excited to go through missing him at ALL. But, I do hope you can still have a blast on your vacation with DH!!

I think oil spills are horrible. It's sad to see what man does to this world we live in.

P.S. I much prefer this style of post :-)

So jealous of your cruise!! DH and I could really use some alone time.

I am too sick over the oil spill. I just dont see why stuff like this happens. With all the technology we have now this should have been prevented completely. So sad.

The place I work on the weekends just blocked Blogger too!
I am seriously considering quitting because of this....how dare they!!

So far new work hasn't blocked blogger or Twitter of all things, but I am on the Emergency Services team. You would think during the day with all office open no one would CALL emergency services and pay a FEE to talk to someone immediately. But, ho boy! They sure do. Needless to say, it's been very, very busy.

How exciting for your CRUISE!! Yeah! Know that G and your mom are going to have blast. She is safe hands.

The oil spill is VERY sad, just breaks my heart.

Have fun on your cruise!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am now a follower of yours. Have a wonderful time on your cruise. I'd love to take one someday.
