It's the most exciting time in a young couple's life... the time when they learn they're having a baby!
Oh... you thought I was
preggo again? Nope. Still working on DH.
So this month's Truthful Tuesday is:
Question submitted by this week's Queen, Heather @ Inich... Like Spinach!

I actually have two answers to this question. The first time I found out I was pregnant, I was so shocked that I called DH about five minutes after I took the test to make sure he was on his way home. Then, I met him at the door and blurted out something to the effect of "Hey there, Daddy!" (sounds kinda dirty when I write it out) the minute he walked in.
I lost that baby, and when I did, I vowed to myself (the crazy things hormonal women say to themselves) that I would "surprise" DH the next time around.
That happened on January 2, 2008.
I had spent that entire cycle alternatively crying my eyes out that I wasn't pregnant, and being eerily confident that I was pregnant. So it wasn't an all-out shock to me when I took the test (the cheapie Dollar Store kind) after work that night and saw TWO PINK LINES.
That's when I cooked up my plan. I told my mom, a few friends, maybe even the postman... but I did NOT tell DH. I decided I would wait until that Friday night, when we had some time to ourselves. I spent the next two days telling him I was feeling all crampy and bloated, and I thought for sure my period was coming on.
I thought I was being so devious.
So Friday night rolled around, and I pulled out the Scrabble board. You guessed it-- while I asked DH to make us some hot chocolate, I rigged the letters so that I had an "A", two "B"'s, and a "Y" on my tile-holder-thingy. When I talked DH into the chance to go first (he actually had a really good word, but later told me he sensed my urgency to go first), I proudly displayed the letters "B-A-B-Y" in the center of the board. And do you know what my darling husband told me?
Do you?
He KNEW it? He KNEW it? Had he seen a discarded test in the trash can, I asked? (No, he hadn't, because I hadn't thrown any away: In fact, I kept ALL my positive tests in a plastic bag until G was about 4 months old and I found them while cleaning out our bathroom.) Had one of my friends or family members blabbed, I questioned? (No, they'd all kept their mouths shut, as promised.) Then how did he know?
Apparently, it's the first-ever case of father's intuition.
So maybe it wasn't a surprise, but it was a night neither of us will ever forget.

That is a really cute story! Unfortunately I have nothing cute to blog about, since he was waiting outside the bathroom door while I peed on sticks ;)
I actually do have a story or two on this one...waiting is something I do well.
For DS, I sent DH roses since he was desert training. They had a "Happy Father's Day" card attached, even though it wasn't Father's Day. I figured, 1-800-FLOWERS could find him even though I couldn't lol. Apparently a main office kept them for 3 days before he came in, so everybody knew and they totally embarrased him in a roll call...whoops. I still think he was grining ear to ear carrying around his dozen red roses on one side and an M16 on the other.
For DD, I gave DH a quiver with 2 arrows on Father's Day. He totally didn't get it. I eventually had to explain the whole thing to him, which took some of the joy out of it, but I still enjoyed myself!
My DH claims he "knew" too! Doubtful. hehe
Very sweet indeed ...My moment in truth for my blog today simply reminds me I needed Tyler and God knew it...I think my ex was happy but he was also off doing things he shouldn't have been I wouldn't find out until buggy boy was 5
It never occured to me to even try to keep it a secret. He was with me when we bought our first pregnancy test and in fact he has gone out and bought other ones on his own at my request. So, he was always right there for the peeing on the stick part and the revealing of the results.
I wish I had some fun, witty way I told my husband either time, but I don't. I first time, I was 18 and we weren't exactly trying/prepared so I called and told him. The second time (5 years later), we had been trying for a few months, I took a test at home and he was right there with me, I too miscarried the baby. The next time, I was supposed to start my period on that exact morning, and when I didn't, I walked across the street to Walgreens while working, bought a test, and went back to work and took it. Sure enough I was pregnant, so I called him and blurted it out! Ha ha! You can see where I've gone with this, that I have NO patience!
IF he ever gives us the go ahead on #3, I will make it a point to cook up some fun ways to tell him and our families. And I will DEFINITELY have the gender be a surprise as well!
So, here's to hoping our hubby's change their minds ASAP ;)
I love that you planned this huge to-do, and he already knew! Hahaha
My story- not much to tell. "Hey, I'm pregnant."
Oh, that is too cute! Alas, I admit, I can't keep a surprise...I don't know why, but something about me and deferred gratification don't mix.
Anyhow, with #1, I wasn't supposed to be able to get pregnant, and my doctor thought I might have had cysts (long story)...anyhow, at the time, her father and I were really close (I mean, on top of everything, we were like best friends) so he took me to my ultrasound appointment. While we were there, they told us I didn't have cysts, I had a baby!
I was already 3 1/2 months along!!!
Talk about SHOCKER!!!
I love that!!!
Since we did IVF, I had blood work done 2 weeks after egg implantation and the nurse called my husband FIRST to tell him..hello??
The best though was at 7 weeks going in for the U/S and seeing 2 sacs with a tiny dot beating in each one...twins!
OMG! I tried to get over here so fast..cuz I thought you were saying you were preggo...lol. The computer took it's sweet time and then I see you aren't...talk about roller coaster emotions.
We had a pretty big scare (ectopic) before we got preggo with Jacek so my hubby was in the bathroom and we watched the stick together.
I called his mother though...and when she answered, I said..Hi Grandma...she started crying...so that was nice to be able to do.
I am not normally a morning commenter, but when I saw the title I had to come over! You little stinker!
That is so cool how you told him with the scrabble pieces and that is totally something my husband would say!
Yay!! !I have not had kids yet but I cant wait to read all the link ups cause I think this is a SUPER blog topic and I can't wait to hear how everyone told their DH!:)
What a cute story! I love it! I adore scrabble too. We play all the time. Now here's a question...did you finish the game and who won? LOL.
I also kept my preggo test in a plastic baggy through two moves. Then tossed-it during our big move to Atl. Why I thought it was so important, I will never know.
Our story is much different, since Julie wasn't planned, Josh came home from work to me balling my eyes out. But thankfully, it's all turned into the best life ever.
Thanks for sharing and thanks for stopping by a leaving J a comment. He was so happy someone read his post!
That is a great story!
I haven't had the opportunity to give Leland a heart attack by telling him I am pregnant, but I already know how I am going to do it. First, I am going to tell his best friend Danny, and Danny will calm me down and tell me that the news won't kill Leland, it'll just shock him for a few days. Then Danny will take him out and get him good and drunk, and then bring him home to me. I'll tell him I am pregnant and then he'll pass out on the toilet.
I will never mention it again. Yes, it will come up in conversation, and I am sure Leland will say "You're pregnant? when did this happen? Why haven't you told me?" But that probably won't happen until I start showing, so it will be too late for him to flip out.
And at least I can say that I did tell him, even if he was too drunk to remember.
There's a long story to the "why" of this, but one Monday afternoon found me locked in the bathroom at work with a pregnancy test. Hubs and I had just started trying, it was the earliest possible day I could test, and what do you know, there were 2 little lines. Not really knowing how to share the news, I took a picture of the pee stick on my cell phone and sent it to him. Like any classy girl would do.
He was with me for the at-home test, where we watched and waited for those lines, actually hoping for a negative since we'd been married a whopping two months and weren't exactly trying to start a family that quickly. When that test was inconclusive three times, I made an appointment with a clinic in town and he met me for the visit. He was there when the doctor came back and said, "It's positive." He was my rock as I felt my world sinking beneath me, and he held up very well until I got over the shock. Then he kind of had a meltdown right before we told his parents. =) We're all excited now (five months in!) and ready to meet her!
what a cute story!!
and I totally thought YOU were preggers again :)
that is so cute!!!!! I don't have anything to post about bc I am not planning on having kids for a good long while, but maybe I'll play along next week!
oh that is so awesome! Funny thing I think husbands intuition is really really real! My husband knew before I did. He actually was the one that said to me with our last baby...I think your preggos, are you sure your not preggos?
It's weird!
Your scrabble game idea is fabulous!
He was there with me when I bought the test, then took the test the next morning, and then when we looked to see the result! Not a dramatic story at all, but I wanted him to find out right when I did. I'd taken 2 prior tests that had maybe-possibly-could-be-pregnant very faint lines, but we weren't sure, so a couple days later we got the digital kind that spells it out in plain English for you!
I love your story. Mine were not that exciting.
With baby Number One: We had been trying for a few months and I was so sick to my stomach and throwing up (I am one of those lucky women that gets instant morning sickness) and on the first day I could test I remember waking up whispering romantically in my hubby's ear "I going to take the test if I am not pregnant then I am dying and need to go to the dr" then I came back five mintues later to tell him the good news.
Baby Number Two: The sickness had been setting in and we were leaving in a day for a vacation with both his parents and mine. I took not one, two, but four tests before leaving and they all were unclear to read and the local store was out of the pregnant/not pregnant ones. So off we went on vacation with the parents and every am he would ask "Anything" to which i replied "nothing" by the end of vacation we figured out that I must be-No real telling on this one
Thank you...
This one really meant a lot to me to post...
I do have to say... You really got me... I'm like, wait - did a puck slip through?
As I sit here... I am still soooo happy for both of us & all the girls who've since followed us down this path to motherhood.
Hugs! I miss chatting with you!
I love your story... especially the scrabble part! clever! love scrabble! =) I lost one baby to miscarriage too... alas.... I have 2 beautiful children...
My body got soooooo sick for 9 months - twice! we just knew after a few days... my dreamy blissful pregnancies were nightmares! sniff! sob sob! very happy to have those memories fade!! =)

My story is so redneck, I'm afraid to even tell it. Seriously. I'm getting embarrassed just thinking about it.
With our first baby, I bought a HAPPY FATHER'S DAY card and taped the pregnancy test inside and taped it to the door so my husband would see it when he got home from work.
He cried.
I answered on my blog!! My first ever Truthful Tuesday!!!
I love the Scrabble idea.... Love it!
Aw, look at you trying to be all sneaky! lol I cant even remember how I told the Hubs I was pregnant. I think the first time I jumped on him screaming "yay Im pregnant!!" and the second time I said "SEE!! I TOLD YOU SO!!!"
Thanks for dropping by...as for mornign sickness I was only sick for 3 days until I realized I could not take vitamins in the mornings and I needed to eat more... after that I was never sick again so God had some mercy on me because I struggled with some blod preesure problems and severe exhaustion...
Okay, here's my redneck story:
I was pretty sure I was pregnant, because I'm never late...and I was late. This was a problem though, because Hubby and I weren't married and I was 19 years old. So, we bought two tests at Walgreens, and went to IHOP. I was so anxious to know, that I took one of the tests right there in IHOP's bathroom. Waited on the test to say yes or no, and when it said "pregnant". I walked out of the bathroom and right over to Hubby who was waiting patiently in a booth. He knew by the look on my face. I laughed, then I cried, then I laughed again, and then I cried again...and well...you get the picture.
That's a GREAT story! Well, except for the first part :-(
I don't remember mine. I had 5 tubal pregnancies and ONE that actually made it. My journal with her was pretty wigged out first trimester. Boy am I glad it happened though, she is an amazing kid.
aw man, i thought you were pregnant! :)
with my first--it was a shocker--so i just blurted it into the phone (after i had told my mom)
the second we had been trying for some time--so i had a t-shirt delived in the mail to my daughter--the return address was from the stork
he didn't get that
the t-shirt said
"big sister to be" on the front
and "june 06" on the back
it took him awhile to "get it"
i lost that baby and decided i wouldn't do anything quite so creative (maybe bad luck)
with the pregnancy of my second child i had my 1st take him the positive pregnancy test
and with my 3rd pregnancy i helped my daughter draw a family picture in which i had a baby in my belly
Too funny! The Husband was half asleep when I told him the first time -- I woke him up after I peed on the stick and he thought he might have dreamed it. He called me from work to double check. The second time, he said he knew. He knew before I knew. It was okay for him to be right that time. :-)
Oh I love your story!! Mine is nothing to write about I am afraid.
How sweet is that?! I'm new, and I love Truthful Tuesdays so far!
Also your comment was too cute! I would loveee to be the "official sponsor" of your blog birthday bash~ SERIOUSLY! I ♥ any reason for a party;o)
~Tanya
I told him after the 3rd positive pregnancy test!
He was out of town for work, and I could not wait till I could tell him in person, as we had been waiting for this moment for almost 5 years. I asked him to please sit down as I had very serious news to tell him. He was really nervous and expected horrible bad news. Instead he got the biggest surprise of his life and it made him very happy!
When I first read the title of your post I was all OMG, OMG, OMG...congrats! Oh wait, that's not right. HA.
With our first, I took the test one morning when we were at home and once I saw it was positive, I yelled, "your boys can swim!"
The second time, I took the test and left it by his sink so he could read it himself!
The third time I ran downstairs and cried, OMG, I'm pregnant...this can't be happening!
I love it! I love Scrabble, but the hubby won't play with me :(
Very creative though!! And you're right, had to be the very first (and probably only) case of dad's intuition.
I saw this post title in my reader earlier and I was planning on saying congrats but I see I was thinking the wrong thing hahaha lol! But that is the cutest story! Love the scrabble thing and thats crazy he knew!!
I don't really have a cute story because I was too excited to wait and tell him! haha I can't keep secrets too long! :)
haha, I LOVE it! What a great idea. I wish I was a little more creative. I am the worst when it comes to keeping a secret or actually pulling off a huge surprise. I always ruin it somehow because I let my excitement get the best of me. For example, I was so excited about my Christmas present I planned for my hubby this year that I ended up giving it to him the first week of december. By the time Christmas rolled around I had wished I kept the secret. So, I've made a goal to be better about that. He turns 30 this summer, maybe I can pull off the ultimate surprise party.
How did I tell my husband we were going to be parents again? I called him at the office and said, "C from the adoption agency just called. There is a baby at the hospital and she wants to know if we want it. I don't know if it's a girl or a boy."
I took the test before work - at 5:30 am - with my son. I was so excited I just went out and woke up my husband by telly him he was going to be a daddy. Needless to say, I learned that's not a good way to wake him up! He was in a bit of shock and not as excited as I thought he would be.
With this one... he actually knew I was pregnant before I did (or would admit it to myself). He sat in the bathroom with me while I peed on the stick and even held it for the 3 seconds it took for the 2 pink lines to show up!
I seriously thought I was done. My hubby and I weren't using anything to prevent, just going with flow, anything-could-happen kinda deal. My sister-in-law was staying with us for a few weeks, and after commenting on my aching boobs almost every day for 3 weeks, she told me to test. The first test was a dud, so the next morning, I took one right there in the pharmacy bathroom. I came out beaming from ear to ear and said "Look!!" We then came up with a plan to surprise my hubby since his birthday was just around the corner anyway.
We go off to Walmart. I browse the baby section and pick out something small, cute, and gender neutral. Then I go browsing the "Congrats on your new baby" card section for that perfect card. We put it all together, with the test, in a generic gift bag and waited for him to get home. He was in the kitchen leaning on the counter when I gave it to him. He pulled the card out first, opened the envelope and pulled out the little baby hat afterwards. He read the card. Remained speechless. Read the card again, this time a dumbfounded look came over him, and he read the card a third time. The third time must have been the charm because he finally caught on. LOL. He was shocked speechless.
Good topic. For each time, she left the test sitting in the bathroom for me to check when it was ready. She fled to another part of the house and was too excited to look on her own.
Cute story!!
My story isn't as cute. We bought the test together and he waited outside the bathroom for the results. I will never forget the excitement though. Next time I will have to surprise him.

Very clever! Funny that he already knew.
wow!! He already knew! Guess you can't hide much from him. You can use that to your advantage when G is older!! :)
My sweet hubby was working the night shift for both my pregnancies (lost the first) and I called him each time. I couldn't wait! I also sent out an email to everyone I knew!!!
Ahhh very cute!!! And yes, you did "get me" with your title! LOL
Seriously?!? I saw your title and was like "I was e-mailing with her all day, I can't believe she didn't tell me!"
Yes, I had a sudden sense of entitlement that I can't even explain and was hurt you didn't tell me first.
I am ridiculous.
Loved the story!
What a great story! If I ever get pregnant again...I said If..I'm gonna steal that idea!!
Visiting from SITS!! (-:
Have a great one!
I wrapped a baby clothes and booties as a present and had DH open it. He didn't get what the baby stuff was all about and then he looked up and saw me with a huge smile and knew....
Oh man!!! I was so hoping you were indeed preggo!! :)
Visiting from SITS..
My first I POAS at 4 a.m. and immediately woke DH to tell him the news...OMG I can't remember the second one. That's awful. I mean...wow. Anyway, the third was as surprise. DH was out teaching #1 to ride a bike without training wheels. I met him over there with #2 (and #3-to-be) but our neighbors were there and then we all went to dinner together. So when we finally got home, and the kids were in bed, I showed DH the stick that read PREGNANT. ANd do you know what the man said? "What does that mean?"

Love the scrabble idea. I took a pic of the positive test and pic txt it to the hubster. He was so excited he didn't know what to do so he txt me back - no way! than he called, and was like seriously?
We just gave birth to our son and I'll never forget that day!
it's way past my bedtime but had to leave a comment, that scrabble idea is so cute. and smart too. i bet your baby turned out to be both!
the first time around my hubby 'knew' too...i could see it on his face before i told him. it probably should have been more of a surprise considering i was on the pill at the time!
