The 2am feedings...
Then the 2am night terrors...
Then the child who wants to do nothing but play at 2am...
There are a lot of headaches that come with being a parent.
But the joys. Ohhhhhhhhh, the joys!

This blog carnival is truly as easy as it sounds...
Each week, The (Un)Experienced Mom and I will pick a category, then ask you to share your Top 3 thoughts on it. We hope you'll play along with us!
This week, we want to know...
Or, if you're not a parent yet, the Top 3 things you're most looking forward to about parenthood?
Today's post is honor of my friend, "A", who is having a c-section as we speak. "A" & I gave birth to our daughter's around the same time in 2008, and now she is welcoming baby #2-- and giving me baby fever in the process! Her impending delivery is also reminding me why I so badly want to have a second child:
#3) That cuddly, must-support-the-head newborn stage. Is there anything better than the weight of a sleeping infant on your shoulder? I crave it, I seriously crave it. Now that G is a little older, she doesn't like to cuddle as much-- except before bedtime. That's when I know I can count on her snuggling into my shoulder, wrapping her arms around my neck, and smelling her sweet baby breath. It's the high point of my day.
#2) Watching her explore new things. I can literally see the wheels turning in her little mind; but I want to know more. What does she think when she hears a sound for the first time? Or pets a dog? Or tries a new food? The possibilities are endless, and I feel like I'm going through that discovery process with her all over again!
And my favorite thing about being a parent is...
#1) Hearing her say my name. When I come home from work at the end of a long day, I know my daughter is going to be there, rushing to the door to great me with open arms, shouting, "mama! mama! mama!" as she runs on her tiny little legs. She makes me feel like a super hero. And you know what? To her, I probably am... and I like that title!

Fun topic.
Here are mine:
1) Taking 3 year olds to a park and dad being able to play and act like a 3 year old again--I can still climb the monkey bars.
2) Attending youth sporting events and watching the kids excel.
3) Seeing the little gang mob mom when she comes home from work--it is an exhibition of true love.
Fun!
1) Hearing him say Mama.
2) Breastfeeding him and having him look up at me with his big 'ol eyes.
3) Watching him learn something new.
You are a super hero ... and that's so very true ... it's a nice feeling and it makes you want to move the world for them :-) And I did get your email ... THANKS!!
"G" is lucky to have such a great mama.
Love your top 3.
#2 is high on my list too. Their excitement and discovery in the small things is amazing. It does make you feel like you're seeing things in new eyes!
yes, it's good to be so loved and so needed, always, no matter what
it's what i loved about dogs only a million times better with kids :)
my three favs?
oh, how can i narrow it down?
1. holding them, at any age, at anytime--big hugs and holding
-especially when you come home and they yell "momma!!" and run to your arms and squeeze you and kiss you
2. falling asleep/waking up with them (we co-sleep :) my middle child twiddles my hair as she falls asleep and i love it
-i love to cuddle them and tickle them in the morning when they are all happy and rested
3. watching them play together. i always tell my friends 2 babies are more than 2x the work but more than 10x the joy--even more so with three--when they are all playing happily together and nice to each other the world stands still and my heart soars
4. when my oldest makes me things. she's 5yrs and does really thoughtful things for me, it makes me so proud of her. when the middle one rubs my back to be nice. when the baby actually shares something she doesn't want to because she loves me.
5. watching them discover new things. like everyone else--i love living through them--feeling that childhood wonder again.
oops..only three, right?
oh, i have so many more!
I love the cuddle! It's like you can't get enough of it...you just want to squeeze them!
AS you know I am childless, but all of those reasons are reasons why I want to have a child so badly!
What are your Top 3 favorite things about being a parent?
3) The look of shear joy when I walk into the room. Especially if it is after I've been away from him for a while
2) Seeing or even just hearing the joy he brings other family memebers... I really love sharing in the joy & happiness of J.
1) Having an unrequested, unprompted "Love You" out of no where is my most favorite thing in the world.
Glad I am not the only one with baby fever! I want that sweet snuggly infant who needs to be rocked and cuddled 23hrs a day :) You know as well as I do though I am just way to busy with miss independant to bring another one in just yet. Cant wait though!
Hope you have a great day girlie!
ps: no luck with the commenting system.. think I am giving up for now :( really liked it when it worked but only working 50% of the time isnt enough ya know!?
Aww! Now that is really, really sweet!! I have to agree with all three you posted.
Oh yes, watching them discover and explore is AWESOME! I think every stage is better than the next, and I think it's fun to learn *with* them as well -- but without letting them know that you DON'T actually know EVERYTHING! ;-)
Sorry I'm late posting a comment!! I had a drs appt this morning!
Oh yes, hearing mama just melts you completely, doesn't it???
It's too hard to pick just one! I'm going to have to go with the ability to see life through a toddler's eyes, when everything is new and exciting and happy. I love that he claps and says "yay!" for something as simple as turning on the lights, and gives me a huge, smiley "HI!" at 6:30 on Saturday mornings.
I'm going to visit a co-workers newborn today, as if my baby fever wasn't high enough!
I ♥ all your reasons! I love the cuddling...I find that boys tend to be more cuddly! And the first time your child says your name and every time after that is the most amazing thing in the whole wide world! ~Jen~
A superhero! I love it. Nothing better than being someone's everything.
having twins gives me double the fun and gratitude..
Lately it's been:
smiles when I walk in the room
going to bed without a fight (yay!)
the sweet smell of a babies head...
A's just a mere ten weeks old, but I LOVE being a mommy! I've wanted a little girl my entire life. Seriously.
#3 - Nursing. I thought before she was born that I would hate the inconvenience of it all, but I love it. I love the closeness, knowing that not only did I grow this little person with my own body, but that the little chubs on her thighs is from my milk. Plus, she's starting to snort while she eats and it's adorable!
2. Her baby cuddles. She's to a point where when I'm holding her she grips me also, and when I nurse her she wraps her little arm around my waist/back. Is there anything better?
1. The way her face already lights up whenever she sees me/hears my voice!
Am I a bad mom if I tell you I DON'T love the infant stage? My son will be 3 this Saturday and I think the older, the better. I'm such a weirdo, I know..
Oh I love the baby cuddles and snuggles! It really is amazing to just sit and enjoy them- it goes by too fast!
Thanks for hosting!
I love the baby snuggles too!
Thanks for hosting!
I totally know what you mean about baby fever!!!! Several of my friends have either just had their baby, are currently pregnant with their #2 baby or just found out they were pregnant! Im so jealous! I totally want my baby#2 now now now! Great post!
Blog award for you on my site today, Elizabeth!!

And my top 3 would be a sleeping baby in my arms, when they're excited and clap, and their little gibberish jabbering when they're happy.
Love your three Elizabeth! Mine would be snuggling with the kids, seeing the nurturers in both of them, and just getting the giggles all together as a family!
My top 3
3. Hugs Hugs Hugs
2. Watching them being proud of themselves. Because they finally figured out how to zip, or button, or draw, or throw something out, or throw or, or or or....
1. When a stranger points at my boys asks, "Are they yours?". I love being able to say "Yep!" even though sometimes I still can't quite grasp the fact that they are MINE!
How sweet! I love that cuddly newborn stage!
1. the way she smells: sweet and still drooly and all-around splendid
2. sharing adventures, be it a new grocery store, a museum, or a walk down an unfamiliar street
3. the tax credit
(WHAT?!?)
- Getting to go to the zoo, museum, park, etc - all the things I love to do but might be weird going by myself all the time!
-Helping them learn new things and watching the light bulb click or how proud they are of themselves.
-Having two little people that love me unconditionally NO MATTER WHAT!
great answers.. that exploration is so much fun. and something tells me at some point you won't like hearing the Mommmmm
What agreat answers. I totally agree with #2 and #3! They are constantly learning new things and it's so wonderful...until they reach the age of 4 and everything is WHY? WHY? WHY? Sometimes I want to say, "Go Google it!"
this is a good one! i can't wait till mine calls me "mamma!"
mine:
1. big toothless smile
2. the excitement she displays with her whole body when i approach her crib in the mornings
2. her laughter
so worth the stretchmarks!!!!!!
I love: cuddles (they go away for a little bit but come back)
being called "mommy" (that's the best!)
being awakened at 9AM (she did that once, really)
Kissing every little finger and toe...I guess that's more like twenty than three but it's true!!
Elizabeth
1) BK (my oldest)
2) Smoochie (my youngest)
3) As I type this they are snuggled beside me in bed giggling to America's Funniest Home Videos. Priceless.
Being a SAHM, I love when DH comes home and Ryan yells, "Daddy Daddy Daddy!" I can understand how you feel when your DD calls for you. My DH gets that exact feeling every day.
awwww, love your answers!
I love the sound of "mommy" from the boys... and mama, mom, and even when they call me "Lily" and think it is sooooo hilarious!! their voices are so sweet!
=)
The end of the day coming in the door is my favorite part too! They're just so happy to see me and I love hearing, "Mama!"
