Listen Girl, I Did Not Come Here To Freeze

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom

I am mixing up the order of some my favorite Friday blog carnivals today (I didn't get to all of them... but next week is a new week!!!)...

Leading off...

Letters of Intent
by "Foursons"!

Dear 19-Year-Old-Hostess-Who-Obviously-Didn't-Notice-My-Barely-There-Top,

When DH & I visited your restaurant last year for Valentine's Day (with my parents-- Thank You, Lord-- paying the bill), we enjoyed your food. We enjoyed your liquor. We enjoyed the atmosphere. But I particularly enjoyed the roaring fireplace that heated up the dining room, making me feel oh-so-comfortable in my LBJ ("little black dress", not Lyndon Baines Johnson, for those of you keeping track).

This year, DH & I decided to return to your humble establishment, hoping for a repeat performance. In fact, we were hoping for an even better experience, considering we would be paying the tab ourselves. So when we arrived (on time, I might add; a feat not easily accomplished by a couple with a toddler at home) for our romantic dinner, I was more than just a little put off when the 19-year-old holier-than-thou hostess seated us in the far corner of the "party room" of the restaurant a gazillion feet from the fire. A gazillion feet from the bar. A gazillion feet from where anyone would notice how smoking hot I'd managed to get myself on just 12 minutes of prep time on a Friday night after work.

There was no one sitting in EIGHT (yes, I counted) of the booths & tables closer to where all the action was. There weren't little reservation cards on their tables like there was on mine. I'm not sure if you thought I wanted to sit in the back of the restaurant, in a drafty corner by the window, with only a raucus party of 16 college students celebrating someone's 21st birthday to keep me company (oh, and DH too, naturally). I'm not sure if you thought fluorescent lighting (as opposed to firelight) was more flattering to my skin tone. I'm not sure if you thought a full bottle of wine would heat me up from the inside out, helping me to forget the air conditioning must surely have been on. I just know you copped an attitude when I asked to move.

But when DH made the same request 10 minutes later?

Well, then you just batted your eyelashes at him and said, "Well certainly, sir."

You tart.

Next Time I'll Be Dining Somewhere Else,
Elizabeth

Batting in the #2 hole (sorry for the baseball references, but I'm told that pitchers and catchers began reporting to spring training this week... so I'm not entirely "off")...
Friday Fragments!

Friday Fragments?

-This is the first Friday in a MONTH that it hasn't snowed. Thank goodness. I am counting down the days to spring (perhaps explaining my baseball-themed allusions today?).

-G started a new round of swimming lessons this week at the local Y. She began her swimming career last year around this time. So far, she has yet to master the freestyle, backstroke, or butterfly. I am furious and will be demanding my money back.

-My last fragment was a farce. I used to teach mommy-baby swim lessons when I was in high school and college. I know that most kids don't manage to learn the strokes until at least three years old (again, joking...).

-Joining us in our swim lessons are, once again, three of G's "best friends" (ok, actually they're three of my best friends-- not the babies, their moms!). I met two of these amazing women at a breastfeeding group at our local hospital when our kids were literally days old (our kids are just three weeks apart). I met the third a short time later at a library story time session. We all took swim lessons together a year ago when the kids were teeny tiny, and are doing it together this time around too. I'm looking forward to each and every class; not only to teach G some important water safety skills, but also for some girl gab time. I'm sure our instructor just loves having us in class!

-And while we're on the topic of sports, DH & I are loving the Winter Olympics. A week ago, I would have told you I wasn't interested in all the cold weather sports. I don't know what it is-- maybe it's the fact that we've had so much snow around here lately, or just the good old American competitive spirit-- but DH & I were SCREAMING OUR BLOODY HEADS OFF during the Nordic Combined. Who even knows what the Nordic Combined is in the first place??? We do... at least, now we do!

*****************************************

And batting clean-up, it's Kailani's...

Apparently, I did this meme wrong last week. While Kailani asks us a question every week, it's up to us to come up with our own, unique question for our own blog. So, I'm asking...

What's your favorite Olympic sport, winter OR summer?

Why isn't there a "spring"
or "fall" Olympic Games? Don't
those seasons feel left out?

This is an easy answer for me. I grew up in the pool (hence, G's swim lessons and my former career as a water safety instructor), and actually have a few former teammates who went to the Olympics. In fact, one girl even won several medals at the 2000 and 2004 summer games. So, I pick swimming!

If you're new to my blog, welcome! I hope you like what you see. Leave a comment and let me know you stopped by so I can repay the visit. And don't forget to enter my latest giveaway-- a set of 12 custom made cards featuring your child from "Flatten Me"!

I love watching Gymnastics in the summer and ice skating/skiing in the winter! :)

When you called the waitress a tart I almost snorted! I pictured an old church lady saying it :) You did get smokin' hot in 12 minutes, doesn't that waitress know ANYTHING?! :)

I am just amazed by all of it!! Can you imagine being an olympian's mom?!! Let me go see this giveaway thing you got going on...I've got one coming next week, so stop by!

You Tart! Love it.

BTW, you do clean up nice! ;o)

Happy FRIDAY to you.

Seriously laughed out loud reading your letter!! Great picture of you two!

I love winter, not so much summer. My favs are hockey and snowboarding.

Seriously? They honored your husband's request but not yours? OK, time to place the stamp on this letter and send it off to management. That is really offensive and untolerable. You are PAYING for the experience, their job is to make you happy.

Thanks for linking up, you smokin' hot minx. :)

This is a complete random comment that has nothing to do with your post but I just wanted to say that I feel all matchy matchy with you because the phone on your banner? that's the same phone I use at my work.

I know, we are so sympatico.

I like swimming. I was watching curling the other night and was really wondering about that one.

Oh, Elizabeth... first of all... YOU LOOKED FABULOUS! Secondly...I laughed so hard at the "tart"!

LOVE it!

Happy Friday, my friend!

could you please give me a break down of this 12 minutes? cuz I can have an hour and not look that hot! :(

I LOVE the Olympics. I have sat on the couch more in the past week than I feel like I have all last year. It is awesome and I love it. I get so emotionally attached it's a little creepy. I will not admit how many times I find myself in tears.

Yep, I'm that girl.

I love swimming, diving, gymnastics, short track, snowboarding, downhill skiing, and nearly everything else. I am hopelessly devoted to all things Olympics.

You're "You Tart" comment cracked my *beep* up!!!!

Awesome post today :) And it's so cool that you were a WSI (among so many other things), so was I!

Love your letter to the tart! Well written and I hope she reads your blog.

Love your little black dress!

So cute that you have have your group of friends to take swim clss with!

That same thing has happened with my husband and me at a restaurant. Grrrr....

I like the winter olympics better because we have more time to watch - in the summer we are too busy playing outside!

I love your letter. On V-day, OUR hostess didn't speak a word of english. And there was no fire at all. LOL. GLad you could move, even if DH DID have to work his charm on the 'tart'.

I like winter olympics best- the figure skating.

I hope the "tart" reads your blog :)

Love the swim lessons! My kids learned at the Y too! Although they were doing the butterfly, backstroke, and freestyle at just a few weeks old...NOT..haha!
You are so funny!

I love the summer olympics! I love love love diving, swimming and gymnastics.

I think I need to shop where you do. I love the LBD, you look great! My littlest started her pool extravaganza at a month old. My best friend ever is a pool manager. She actually had people complain to her that I had such a small baby at the pool. Jerks.

Hahaha Tart! Love it! I would have copped an attitude right back!

My favorite Olympic sports is women's gymnastics and figure skating.

Yes! You called her a tart! That's one of my favorite words.

Curling!! That's our favorite sport here, because we are both convinced we could totally do it, even though we are both FL natives and have spent maybe 15 minutes total standing on ice skates...

And that 19-year-old hostess... Well, is that picture from your date? Because maybe she thought you were already HOT STUFF! :-D (But seriously, TOTAL tart.)

Good heavens girl, I'm over here going all "Nu-uhhhh, No she didn't!" - and the tart reference...high-larious!

Love, love, LOVE your dress! I'm glad they ended up moving your table... even though it took your man having to talk to the little brat to get it done! Hostesses... they think they're such hot stuff, right?!

I knew DH was the man. See we know how to get stuff done for our ladies. DH deserves a round of applause.

I am all over the swimming too! We all swan competitively and I love watching it!!!
As for the winter games, I am glued to the half pipe snowboarders, I love the relaxed nature of the sport!

PS: that little black dress is HOTT! Trust me, you would have been noticed...hence taking away attention from the little tart, hence why she seated you farrrr away..

My hubby and I went to a restaurant recently and were treated the exact same way! The third time she flirted with him and was rude to me, I asked to be moved to another section :)

I love swimming and the synchronized swimming for summer, and in winter I love watching the skiing, luge, and snowboarding. Sorry. Can't just pick one!!

Enjoy swimming lessons! I can't wait for it to warm up to get in the pool here with Callie. She loves the water, and I know we'll be in it as much as possible this summer.

Have a great weekend.

P.S. You were quite nice calling that little twitty waitress a tart. I would have hit her out of the park! ;)

First of all, you did look super hot! Don't you just HATE those little 19 year old chicks who think they are all that? UGH! I'm really horrible because I usually wish multiple pregnancies including stretch marks, hemmorhoids and saggy boobs along with premature wrinkles and frizzy hair on them. HA! Then see how holier than thou you are! HA! (Sorry about that.)

I choose gymnastics. That's what I did when I was a kid so it's always my favorite because I actually know what's going on.

I could NOT stop laughing at the letter! My husband always gets fantastic service. Me? Not so much.

That tart was just jealous of you! Great letter though!! Sounds like a nice place if you get a good table!

I can't wait to do swimming lessons with my daughter! Enjoy!

Oh and my favorite Olympic sport would be ice skating. I think they should be a spring and fall Olympics! Maybe you should start it???

That's easy!! We are a hockey family!! We have been watching the men and women play hockey since the start of the Olympics. Go Team USA!!! :)

I love snowboarding and figure skating..But I really enjoy watching any of the Olympics..I am so sorry about the hostess she was probably just jealous you did not have to work while she did and that you look fabulous!

Wait...King Tut's mother and father were probably siblings? Did noone else read this?

I, too, love summer swimming, but my true heart belongs to figure skating...I grew up with the sport and I'm scared to death that Lil Bits may want to try it. Funny how my perspective changed with age.

Great picture of you guys...you look amazing! Too bad that "tart" ruined it for you.

I remember doing swim lessons with my first. But then I got pregnant again, and yet again. No more swim lessons for us. Can you imagine me and 3 boys at the pool? My nightmare!

I like the summer olympics better. I love the gymnastics. Those girls (and guys) are crazy!

I would have hit the hostess upside the head and left the business all together.

What a wonderful dining story! YOu tart, lol. Fav sport? Winter - snowboarding. Summer? Mmmmm, ummmm, I dunno. I like summer more. Too many to choose from.

btw, in response to your comment on my blog? Yes, Dick Goddard! LOL! How funny! I KNEW you'd KNOW! ha ha! Yep, can you believe he's still alive. (I mean...forecasting) lol
:)

I love the summer olympics. I loved the tart comment. You looked amazing by the way. My daughter loves the swim classes at the local Y. I love the social aspect. She always has a blast. To bad she also has not mastered the backstroke.

LMBO!

i don't usually watch the olympics.

New to the blog! :)

We are swimming fans in our home also! My brothers were competitive swimmers and one of them went to the Olympics (as an athlete, not just a spectator!).

My kids love swimming. My oldest wants to be like Michael Phelps when he grows up... I am hoping he's talking about the swimming...

I love gymnastics in the summer and figure skating in the winter!

snort - I can tell you what I don't love...

Men's figure skating. Then again, that's more my DH's fault, than the actual skating itself.

snort

Love the picture of you & DH. I'm very impressed by the 12 min cleanup!! And after she moved you, you are better person than I, as I would have said - "Since that was so easy, mind explaining WHY it was not possible when I asked?"

Okay, maybe I wouldn't have, but it felt good to think it... :)

There's really no sport I'll go out of my way to watch, witness the fact that our TV is still not plugged in to an aerial even though the Olympics are on. However I have been known to quite enjoy watching equestrian events, some gymnastics, ice-dancing and diving.

My mum used to be a swimming teacher.

I love your black dress! And I can't believe that little snot copped a tude with you when you asked to move and then sucked right up to your DH. Ugggghhhh.

Keep us posted on G's trek towards the Olympics! So adorable. :)

I can't believe you met these friends when you all first had your babies and kept in touch..that is so very cool! I love that!

You looked great for your night out! Man...12 minutes! I wish I could whip it out in 12 :)

haha, I loved your Letter of Intent to the hostess. I was laughing, love your humor :)

Hi, and thanks for visiting my blog (http://twintrialsandtriumphs.blogspot.com)! I'm new to the blogosphere over the past couple of months, and I'm having a great time. I loved reading your letter to the hostess....I've SO been there! :)

Just a quick note about kiwi...I peel it, cut it into quarters long-ways, and cut away the pithy center. Our girlies loved it from the first bite.

Good luck, and happy blogging!

I love the nordic combined! It is so exciting to watch for some reason. Biathalon is also pretty riveting. I love the winter olympics! I guess that is what I get for living in the "north"/midwest (I grew up in MN and now live in WI)

Drives me nuts when people are nicer to the dude than to the chick.

Please tell me you were not already a parent at the time that picture was taken. Or I am forever abandoning my Wii Fit because I don't look like that yet! :)

Stopping by from Julie @ Foursons - nice to "meet" you!

gymnastics... ice skating... I have been enjoying the skiing & snow boarding too!?! too much fun! I don't care who wins... it is so fun to see the thrill and skill!
Have a great weekend!

Moonscape Melting; More on the Way?

i love summer olympics... probably track & field and volleyball. winter- downhill skiing.

Haha, fall and spring feel so left out!

Oh, and I hope you got moved to a better table...closer to the rest of civilization! ;)

hahaaaa, i heart sarcastic letters =)

Love your blog, I am a new follower!

Lily

I dont watch the Olympics. At all. I know, Im terrible.

I am however thinking its awesome you got yourself all dolled up in 11 minutes!! It takes me an hour at least! lol

you TART! HAHHAHA. This is classic.

And love your Vday pic. Too cute!

Not lovin' that hostess!

I enjoy gymnastics.

Tart...I love it.

I used to like watching the gymnastics.

Visiting from Friday fragments

You looked cute, that little tart be darned!

Boy and I loved swim lessons last year- I'm just waiting for it to warm up a little, so we're going to do the spring session. My little genius actually invented a new stroke last year. I call it the shrimp- kick your legs and move, well, like a shrimp.

I prefer the Winter over the Summer Olympics. Ice Skating is my favorite.

An Island Life

I loved the letter to the hostess. Our favorite restaurant we went to for V-day was Frigid too. Do they expect us to be dressed like a prude or like its winter time or something?

The letter to the hostess was great!! Oh my gosh! What a loser!

Sometimes, though, hostess get paid by the servers to seat people in their table. It might have been that it had to do with that. I worked in a restaurant for 3 years and a lot of times we would bribe the hostess to seat or NOT seat certain people in our section.

When I'm spending the big bucks, I too, want great service and great sitting.

We once went to a restaurant where the food was like $75 per plate, and we received awesome service, were sat by the window to enjoy the awesome view...it was cozy...I just loved it!

Sorry the hostess was rude to you at that restaurant. I hope you have a better experience next time, if you decide to eat there again.

Just started following your blog.. since I am a working mother of 2 I LOVE IT. Your entry on the Nordic Combined event had me LOL... we watched with my 3 y/o son and all of us were cheering and yelling. Afterwards I was thinking the same thing, Nordic Combined? Really? Who even knew such a thing existed. Anyway, thanks for the laugh.. love your blog!

Unbelievable!! glad your honey took care of it :)

I love watching Olympic gymnastics, and we always tune in to a variety of events during the Winter Olympics. Tonight, Mr.4444 is rooting for the beer-bellied guy on the U.S. bobsled team :)

Loved the restaurant letter--very funny!!
