Truthful Tuesdays-- Let Go, Let Unibrow, Let Giveaway

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom

Yes, there is a giveaway hidden in this week's edition of...

Truthful Tuesdays!

Whether you're a working mom, a stay-at-home mom, a working wife, a working single girl (but not that kind of "working girl"!), then you've probably-- at some point-- lost yourself.

I know when I went back to work (grudgingly) after having G, I knew I wouldn't be able to be "Super Mom", "Super TV News Producer", "Super Wife", and "Super Housekeeper". I knew I'd have to give something up...

This week's question is:
How has motherhood taught you to let go?

Back to my story...

When I went back to work a year ago this month (January 5th, actually, was my "back to work" anniversary-- a day I'd rather not celebrate!) I wasn't willing to give up my daughter, my drive for excellence at work, time with my husband, or my presentable house. So instead, I gave up...

...a presentable me.

If it came down to taking a shower in the morning or spending 15 extra minutes with G, I chose my daughter (and put on a little extra deodorant).

If it came down to cleaning the bathroom or cleaning the day's makeup off my face, I chose the bathroom (and caked on a little more foundation in the morning).

And if it came down to cuddling in bed with DH for a few minutes longer in the morning, or tweezing my eyebrows, I let this happen:

Sure, sure, it might not look that bad, but for a girl who is infatuated with her own eyebrows, letting go felt like letting a unibrow grow!

So...
How has motherhood taught you to let go?

Tell me, or better yet, SHOW me!

Lol, Elizabeth, this post kills me b/c I am in the SAME state right now! I have been letting them GROW so that I can get waxed this week and IT IS DRIVING ME INSANE!!!!!! UG! I know I will get a cleaner wax if I let it go, but man. :-p

I've totally let a presentable self go since having Z and working like crazy (almost done w/ the degrees!!!). I hate my clothes, but we are saving $$ for a house, so I am going w/o for now. :-p But I WON'T stop getting my hair done, primarily b/c I have a lot of gray starting to come in. So, DH just has to deal, but at least I let more months go by between colorings.

I'm a follower.
Oh, and I would say that I have definitely let my house go- it is not so tidy since having my little boy. :)

Oh, here's my answer then for a separate comment-
I have let my house go since having my son; it is NOT tidy anymore. :)

Oh my goodness! That was so funny. I'm sure there's enough time in the day to spend quality time with children and rid one's self of a uni-brow hahah

Hey there , I follow you :)

As far as motherhood and letting go,.. well I would have to say NO!
I feel so inspiried by this I am going to pop over to my blog and write a post~ see ya there

BTW have a great week!

Oh, I've really let my feet go since having my baby. The heels are cracked, the nails are rough and the toes are hairy!

I have learned to let go of a lot of things and there are some that drive me crazy that I have let go, but in the end my family comes first!

Thanks for sharing my SITS day with me!

Your button is on my blog...

I'd love to offer to make you a new button if you want to use a more recent picture of your sweetie, or something new let me know.

Too funny! The things that are more important now. I use to get my eyebrows waxed religiously, my hair highlighted on a strict three month cycle, and I always had my nails and toes painted! Now not so much! I rather spend more time with my kids and spend the extra money on beep beeps and cute accessories at Gymboree. Because that is what makes them happy, not the color of my hair or nails!

Hi! Thanks for leaving me a comment! My name is actually "Ashley", you got it right! That NEVER happens! :)
My mom just wanted to spell it differently.

So glad you found me and now I can read your blog!

you are a brave brave soul. only because I am a makeup artist can I not allow my eyebrows to get that crazy. my legs - absolutely. it's winter time! who's going to know?
love that you are letting go of the all the "extras" to have that extra QT!!!
enjoy!

I've definitely stopped taking good care of my hair. I haven't had it cut in a looong time, like I don't even remember when the last time was...I don't shave my legs as often as I should, and my feet are a disaster! These things will just have to improve by the time summer arrive... :)

My eyebrows ALWAYS look like that. The last time I got my hair cut, my stylist said, "Um, you ARE getting your eyebrows done too, riiiight?" LOL. I should take a picture of my bikini line and then you'd feel so much better. But don't worry I won't. ;)

Your button is on my blog.

As for letting go...I wear the same clothes until they are visibly dirty, or they don't smell clean anymore, just so I don't have to add them to the rapidly heaping pile of laundry. I feel compelled to mention, however, that I always wear clean underwear!

I've definitely let go of trying to look like I'm so put together all the time, when in actuality I'm falling apart most of the time. I've given in to wearing ponytails all the time, wearing mascara as my only sign of make-up and wearing sweats and t-shirts.

Funny thing is though I always like my kids to look presentable. Who cares what I look like as long as it looks like they're wearing clean clothes and they smell good?! LOL

Even though it's only been 12 weeks so far, I've definitely already learned a lot about letting go. I used to be pretty anal about the cleanliness of our house. Now, it's much dustier and dirtier than I want it to be, because my time is better spent with my son. The dust can wait. I haven't really cared for myself well in years, so that's not really motherhood-related, more so busy life related. So I could definitely do more in that area, too. But who has the time? Sleep, and spending time with my family, are more precious.

Following you on Twitter, sista! I am @aidenscross :)
