I Am Hungover... RIGHT NOW

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom

Haha, made you look!

I hope you don't think I'm actually, literally hungover-- as in
nauseated...
pounding headache...
can't even think about food...

Gosh, food is all I CAN think of right now!

No, I mean, I'm hungover from the holidays.

This always happens to me at this time of the year.

Maybe I drank like a frat boy imbibed a little...
Maybe I skipped a few too many days at the gym...

By the way, I broke my own rule this
week and fought the post-New Year's
crowds earlier this week... bad idea!

Maybe my personal habits evolved into the human personification of sloth itself (and a few of the other seven deadly sins to boot...)...

And today?

Today?

I am most definitely hungover.

I am a little down... a little depressed... my heart is as chilled as this January cold snap we're seeing in the South...

This is an actual picture uploaded by an actual viewer onto my TV station's actual website... yes, it's frigid here!

I want the holidays back.

I want the spirit of the holiday season to warm my bones...
I want the anticipation of a Child's birth to keep me motivated...
I want to see the twinkle of the holiday lights reflected in my daughter's eyes...

It may not be Monday, but I definitely have a case of them.

It's official--
the winter doldrums have set in.

I know we're all about a...

I was making plans with my sister this morning and actually started suggesting an outdoor location, then I realized that was NOT going to work! I am so ready for some warmth...I'm fighting the "winter blues" by getting things organized and getting OUT of the house as often as possible (to warm places, of course).

you think it's cold there!! LOL It's 4 degrees here and it's snowing hard!!! The roads were horrible this morning. Took me an hour to get to daycare and it usually takes 25 mins. took me 30 mins to get to work from daycare and usually takes 15 mins!!!

Darn, I got nothing. I was reading blogs for inspiration. Lol.
I just woke up to a snowstorm and all the kids are home from school. My house is STILL behind from the holiday and I need those guys in school. {{sigh}}. Maybe next week I'll catch up:{

My Winter Blues start in the Fall and follow me all the way through March. I usually try to stay busy, or plan stuff so that I don't have time to think about the things I am missing. It generally works, and if I stay busy enough, Summer time is here before I know it!

What new steps? At this point in life they're not new, they're recycled!

But eating better, getting more exercise- in whatever form it takes- Wii bowling is my current drug of choice...
and trying to make my life more streamlined, simpler, less hectic...
IF I can accomplish just a few of these things I will feel like I am heading somewhere...
This time of year leaves me feeling down ... but this year I look at it as full of promise... about 60% of the time.
The other 40% I am sleeping... or trying to sleep ... or wishing I was asleep.

When I start feeling down in the winter I get the kids bundled up and off sledding we go. Take a bunch of pictures that we can all laugh at later as we sip my homemade cocoa. But then I love the winter.
Everyone laughing together always makes me feel better.

i'm just trying to hang on to all the good memories i made with family and friends we visited over the holidays!

OMG - I am SO with you! I have that feeling from January til March!
Just started reading your blog a few weeks ago ... AWESOME!

I feel your pain. We are getting more snow and every time I look outside I want to cry.

Hopefully April comes soon.

Hang in there. Oh, and Vitamin B always helps to cheer me up. Just a suggestion.

I have the winter blues too.. My way of fighting them? Traveling someplace warm! :) We are going to Arizona in two weeks, I cannot wait! My SIL who lives there tells us it's cold, it has only been in the 60's this week. Right now I would LOVE 60 degree weather, anything is better then the teens and 20's we are experencing now.

Yes. You DID make me look. But my holiday hangover often has as much to do with detoxing from too much wine as it does from all the holiday brouhaha. ha. (is that enough ha's?)

Steps to avoiding the blues? Seriously getting my butt in shape. Because if I am hot, I will be a little less blue, I think.

Good one! I'm with Becky - I was hoping to get some inspiration from somewhere else. This week my fighting spirit is keeping me from getting sucked into the blues. We are just way too busy for me to let myself get wrapped up in the blah that comes after Christmas. I am setting my alarm a little earlier than I need to and give myself some extra time to adjust to the day.

You had me there for a minute! I thought, "Did she email last night while she was kicking back a few cold ones?!" ;-) I was going to say that you think really well under the influence!

I am shedding these 15 pounds of unnecessary and definitely annoying baby weight. Getting reacquainted with my body and my muscles. And trying not to HATE the inches, and possibly FEET of snow I am currently sitting in. (Not a winter girl!)

Right now, I'm just trying to stay warm. BRRRRRR....oh and focused on work except that I am taking a little break right now. Grins

My step is that I live in AZ where the high will be near 70 today....no winter blues here!

I don't want the holidays back - though the time off would be nice to have again...no, I would really love the summer to hurry up and get here!! This cold is no fun!

I'm sorry you have the January Blues!!! I don't have time for the Blues with everything that's going on over here. I hope you start to feel better soon :o)

Oh, I hear ya! They are predicting snow here in coastal NC tomorrow and I am so depressed about it.

I had big plans for the new year and now I'm sick! That's not to mention the freezing weather and lack of sunshine. I can totally relate to your winter blahs! I'm hoping that once my energy returns I will be able to pick back up on my big plans. ;)

Hear hear!! As you commented on my site it seems that we aren't alone. This time of year is the worst!!! you say you live in the south..isn't it better? It has to be better than the forcasted 20 degrees we are getting here!

i'm in SC and it is freezing here. no snow yet, maybe February, but it is not going to get above 35 this week during the day. trying to schedule activities for my 5 y.o. so we both don't lose our marbles. cabin fever has set in. i have also been lazy about going to the gym to run, and changing my diet. i hope you snap out of your winter blues soon. take care and keep warm.

I exercise! I got a Wii Fit Plus for Christmas, and these days, with that Lake Effect snow and cold NE Ohio wind I get home from work and just feel very blah. But 15 minutes working out, those endorphins kick in and I feel better.

Plus, my dad does my taxes, too and, yeah, sometimes it feels like I'm at the bottom of his list, as I have to keep reminding him! So I know how you feel!

I had a bad holiday hangover too! I'm keeping myself busy with P90X to keep me out of the blues!

P.S. I have an award for you, come get it when you can! :)

I'm with ya, lady. I really need to take our Christmas tree down, but the thought of looking at the big empty space where it once was is depressing. At least we have a fakie so it's not posing a fire hazard.

And it's been so darn cold EVERYWHERE! It's so strange! We are supposed to get some snow tonight, but I'm not a huge fan of snow that happens after the holidays.

To cheer myself up, I've been spending more time exercising. Our wedding is next month, so I should be keeping up with it anyway! I just tried Zumba tonight for the first time and it was so much fun and totally cheered me up! I think keeping it fresh is going to keep my spirits up. :)

I like the comment about if you look hot then maybe you will feel a little better! I hate hate hate the cold! That pic is insane! A nice trip to an island some where would be perfection! Hubby is heading to southern California in a few weeks and I am extremely jealous!! : (

Oh my gosh usually I am loving winter, but this year I CANNOT wait for spring... hope it comes early! lol

Ug, I am THROWING myself into work.

I don't think this is the best method.

:-(

i have the same hangover..and it actually is not over yet because we have back-to-homeland visitors all the way from canada ;)

missing your visits dear! come see also my newly reconstructed earthy me

Hey, thanks for stopping by the other day! You asked about the cute shirt in the pic of "me" - and I am laughing right now at that fact that "the winter doldrums have set in" AND you're wondering where to find a summer tank! :-)

Anyhoodle ... I got it a while ago at TJMaxx - another place other than outlet malls that I never get out of quickly enough - or without parting with some of my cash. :-)

AND - I might add, buying yourself a fun new tank top would be a step in the direction of avoiding the Winter Blues!

I understand those winter blues... :(

Lots of cocoa gets me over the winter blues! Love the tips! I have an award for you: http://viviannesvista.blogspot.com/2010/01/walking-red-carpet.html
