These Are A Few Of My Favorite Memes... (and a request from me)

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom

Why is it that so many of you have great blog hops on Fridays??? I can never decide whose to participate in... so once again, this week I am going to cram all of them into one post!

But first... I have a special request! I'm sure many of you are already familiar with The Blog Frog. Now, the folks over there are offering to donate $10 to The Children's Hospital Network for every blogger who adds 20 new active members to their community between now and Christmas. What makes you an active member? Glad you asked. You must sign up to follow and comment on at least one discussion. After G spent time in NICU after her birth, I have such amazing gratitude and respect for the medical community and feel like this is the LEAST I can do to help out. In addition to the $10 donation The Blog Frog will make in my name, I will donate $1 to Ronald McDonald House (another organization we greatly benefitted from during G's first week and a half with us!) for every NEW follower I get on my blog OR on my Blog Frog community over the next two weeks. It'll be like my own little Christmas gift to a pair of great organizations. So, sign up, spread the love, and tell your friends, and let's make this a great holiday for kids and their families everywhere!

Now on to my first favorite Friday meme (in no particular order)...
"Friday Fragments" from Mrs. 4444s!

Friday Fragments?

A couple of fraggalicious updates...

-Many of you have asked how weaning G has gone. It's been great! It's given me a lot less anxiety at bedtime (I didn't realize how sick I was of nursing bras!), and she hasn't noticed it what-so-ever. In fact, we've replaced nursing time with reading time.

-DH has now been off night shift for a week. I've only kicked him out of bed once (ok, ok, twice-- but that second time was because I was sick and hacking up a storm and was concerned he wasn't getting enough rest in our bed... and you'd never expect the sick person to seek shelter elsewhere in the middle of the night, would you?). But I love the feeling knowing that I'll get to see him every night after work. It makes the nights so much less lonely.

-Yes, I am still sick. This blows chunks (although, mercifully, I have not been blowing chunks... it's not that kind of illness). I would be much closer to getting better if a certain 14-month-old child in my household (not naming names, or anything) had not woken me up in the middle of the night the past two nights screaming my name only for me to burst into her room in a panic to hear her ask, "Play?" No G (geez, I outed her!!!), 2am is not the appropriate time to play with your doll.

Now for some other, non-updatey frags...

-I have this crazy patch of dry skin on my face (positioned in the same spot as Cindy Crawford's infamous mole) that just will not go away. In fact, it looks like someone burnt me with a cigarette-- it's a perfect circle. I heard your skin loses elasticity and the ability to fully heal as you grow older, but c'mon, I'm 27... I'm not that old.

-We finally decided to go ahead and put up the Christmas tree. It's actually worked out pretty well! I only have a handful of ornaments on there-- I decided to keep my most-treasured ones in the box this year-- and everything from about the waist down is plastic or plush and entirely kid-friendly. So far, so good... finger's crossed!

-I have been to a dozen first birthday parties this year, and not a single adult birthday party during that same time frame. It makes me feel (A) like somebody's (B) very uncool mother.

Now, moving on to
The (Un)Experienced Mom's
"Fill In The Blank Friday"

Photobucket

The children's show I can't stand is _________.
But the one I secretly like is ________.

Ok, Tamara, we must be brothers from another mother (or in our case, sisters), because I have considered asking the exact same question on Truthful Tuesdays!

To answer the first part, the children's TV show I can't stand is:

Yo Gabba Gabba--
Honestly, DJ Lance gives me the heebie jeebies.

And the children's TV show I secretly love is:

Imagination Movers--
I have a secret jonesing for Mover Rich. Ow ow!

Moving on to Mama M's "Five Question Friday"...

My Little Life

This week's questions are:

1. Does Santa wrap the presents he leaves at your house?
Absolutely! Although this year, my parents are starting a new tradition of using reusable fabric bags. They are so "green" (only because it's trendy, I think, not because it's the right thing to do unfortunately). That means the presents they give us will be only-kinda-sorta wrapped. But you better believe I will waste unGodly amounts of paper on my family's gifts!

2. When is your "big" Christmas celebration...Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Tell us about it...
We have always been big Christmas Eve people in our family. For years, we've gathered with my Godparents on Christmas Eve for mass and a big dinner. But this year, DH & I are staying at home with G, and he has to work til 7pm on Christmas Eve, so for the first time, we'll be going to Christmas Day mass instead. I'm a little non-plussed, but it will be ok.

3. Are you big on keeping tradition every year?
Ever seen "Fiddler On The Roof"? Traditiooooooooooon! Yes, tradition is the glue that holds my family together, even if we're hundreds of miles apart. I know that my mom will be ticking the days off with her advent calendar, addressing her Christmas cards, and listening to carols as she drifts off to sleep on Christmas Eve. And I will be doing the exact same things!

4. Do colored lights or white lights tickle your fancy?
We used to be a colored lights family. Then we (gasp!) broke with that tradition (ok, so maybe I'm not as big on keeping tradition as I thought!) and splurged on a pre-lit tree this year (DH refused to string the old, outdated, energy-inefficient lights on our old faux tree any longer). The tree I liked best only came with white lights, so that's what we've got. But come here and I'll tell you a secret... shhhh, I actually like those white lights better!

5. Do you decorate outside your house for Christmas?
Definitely! We used to go overboard, but then something awful happened. I actually think I'm going to blog about that hideous event sometime next week, so I won't spoil the story now!

And remember...
I am still looking for your nominations for
Queen for a Day!

Ronald McDonald House is awesome. My cousin and her husband have been staying there for the past few weeks while their newborn awaited his heart surgery. They just closed his chest yesterday, but he still has several weeks of recovery left. A worthy cause!

For your dry patch of skin- philosophy's "when hope is not enough" cream. It's amazing!!! When I was pregnant with my third, he sucked the life out of me and my skin turned SCALY and would flake off- it was disgusting. That cream worked wonders. If there's a Sephora near you, go in and tell them you want to try it- they should give you some in a little trial container and the stuff works so fast you might not even need to buy any. ;)

Dry patch = lizard

Do you moonlight at the Gieco Gecko??

Hallie :)

Stopping by from FF. I hope you feel better real soon!

My FF

Yay for the tree! My neighbor has a 18 month old and normally goes all out for Christmas - as soon as she got her favorites out, her daughter went straight for them. She was so disappointed when she had to put most decorations away. Now we are busy making cloth angels for her tree!

I hope you start feeling better soon! I can't stand Yo Gabba Gabba either. We watch it in the church nursery where I work. Drives me nuts, but keeps the kids quiet. For some reason, they are mesmerized(sp?) by it!
-Faith

I just needed to come by and say thank you for stopping by.

I will be back to check this out after I get over my cold and can think straight.

I've never seen Yo Gabba Gabba, but like six people have listed it as their "hate" so far, so I'm definitely going to keep the kids away from it. We're Sesame Street junkies in this house.

27? Woman, you are a SPRING chicken!!
I love that song from Fiddler!

I have never heard of either children show.

Hope you feel better! Send G my way, I was up past 2am last night.

I love the Movers! Confession: I have a mom crush on Scott... I told my husband. He's OK with it, mostly.

Haha! Love the comment about your parents! You know I try to be very green too, and although it started with my daughter being born, and organic food, I think that the fact that it is so trendy these days to be green is helping me stay on board! Anyway as green as I try to be, I am wrapping presents like there is no tomorrow!!

Oh to be 27 again!!
..
sure hope you are feeling better soon.
happy Friday

OH MY GOSH. I JUST posted about Imagination Movers and my giant love of Rich. I should start a fan club.

First, let me say that your daughter is beautiful!!! I love those three pictures at the top of your blog, absolutely priceless photos!

Second, thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving such a sweet comment. I really loved reading all your favorite meme's. And I learned we have something in common (not that it's rare but still...) we are both 27! haha!

I, too, hope you feel better. Being sick is the worst. Have a great weekend and I'm glad that your hubbies home at night now!

I will not miss nursing bras when Ci is finished nusring! I have a Christmas party to attend next week and I am freaking out, because I need a strapless bra with my dress and mine are all packed away somewhere.

I hope you get feeling better soon!

Glad to hear you did put up a tree - smart move keeping the more precious and breakables in their boxes for now... ;)

Ugh! Being sick this time of year sucks pond water! Hope you feel better soon!

Santa wraps the presents here, too - in paper that Princess Nagger never sees, so it makes it more Santa-ish since it's not the usual wrapping paper I have all over the place... :)

I don't like Yo Gabba Gabba, either - but the Imagination Movers are fun to watch! :)

Happy FF! :)

Thanks for leaving me a comment! I will hopefully early week have all of my Christmas posted for the blog parties and I will make sure to put pics in of the Snoopy/Peanuts tree! Right now there are a few stacks of boxes in front of it! Ha

Thank you for the sweet comment you left me! It was a very scary decision, but one that I know I will never regret. (And please remind me I said this when I'm moaning and groaning about it! lol)

Your little girl is such a doll! I have a 15 month old, and we put our tree up last weekend. To my shock and amazement, she has done great with it.

And congrats on the weaning. I know that had to be tough, though. I had to stop at 8 months due to not being able to produce enough (nother long story...). It's not often you hear mom's go past a year. How awesome you made it 14 months!

I loved all of your meme's, too!

Enjoy your weekend!

I'm following you now. I haven't watched either of those TV shows but then, I don't have any little kids.

Following you (although I could swear I already was :))

Yo Gabba Gabba....dude, dancey dance time is the stuff that real nightmares are made from!

Ok, because you used that term (brothers from another mother), we are FOR SURE that. B/c I use that term all the time! ;-)

Imagination Movers I've seen once and I admit I was more into it than my mini-me. I am going to try to brainwash him into like shows like that instead of Fireman Sam and Noddy. So sick of them!

And Yo Gabba Gabba...another one I've never seen before, and am totally okay with that! But hey, Brad Pitt dressed up as someone from there for Halloween, so it can't be THAT bad, right?! ;-)

Thanks for letting me know about the charities on Blog Frog. My sorority's charity was Ronald McDonald House and we often did fundraisers for them. So I will be posting about it tomorrow.

Ok, done taking up valuable space in your comments section! Thanks for playing my game!

looking for xmas gifts..?

http://googlemart.blogspot.com/2009/12/little-kid-christmas-crafts.html

Have a nice weekend! God Bless!

My hubs is SO freaked out by DJ Lance but our little dude loves it so. It's hilarious. I think actually quite like watching the Fresh Beat Band. More than the munchkin does I think. Ah ha

Weaning is a bittersweet time, but also so incredibly liberating. Enjoy your freedom!

And yes, it was Ann Taylor Loft, my favorite place in the world.

LOL...Yo Gabba Gabba!!! I am so thankful that my son doesn't like that show! We LOVE Imagination Movers...but no crushes here. I listen to my 16yo daughter's music, so I am secretly crushin' on Justin Timberlake :) Okay, okay...she doesn't listen to JT, but I needed an excuse to say that I have a crush on Justin Timberlake!!

Hope you feel better soon!

~Shelley

I started following you just the other day, can we just pretend I started today?? It's for a great cause!!! Wow, you def got all the Friday carnival blogs into this one blog :o)

Glad weaning's going well! I've heard some horror stories so it's nice to hear about someone that's escaping unscathed with a happy baby.

Sorry you've been sick! Boy wakes me up by hitting me in the face (we cosleep) so I feel your pain.

Good job on the tree. Ours is empty underneath for the most part. Santa has his own special paper every year :)

Glad the weaning is going well. I hope you get some sleep this weekend.

Better go get that thing on your face checked by your doctor. I have a gross age bump that arrived on my right cheek this year. I hate it!

Have a great weekend :)

Sleeping alone is nice, huh!?! I could do with one night a week. :o)

So sorry to hear that you're sick! Hope you feel better very soon!

Yo Gabba Gabba scares me very much. I'm going to have to actually pay attention when Imagination Movers is on. I don't know who Rich is.

First time visitor to your blog - thanks for stopping by my place first! Love it - simply love it! And don't feel bad about Mover Rich, I used to have a crush on the Zaboomafoo guys! lol!

Holy mother of posts!!! Seriously. Do you have pets? The dry spot could be ringworm. Sounds gross I know. But it usually presents in a circle like that. My friend got it on her chin once from letting her god give her kisses.

I had our Christmas tree put up inside the playpen for a few years - my first two kids are 18 months apart. In the end the cats did more damage to ornaments than any of the kids ever did - at least the kids never tried to climb the tree!

I'm now following!!

And, I'm so glad you left your three interesting things on Crumbs. Did you eat all of the fudge on Friday? Mmmmm...fudge...

I'll be drawing for that cd in the next few days and you're entered!

Have a great weekend!

First let me thank you for visiting me over at my place.
Second-you have a b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l baby girl!
We do Christmas at my house on New Years weekend. My girls have so many other places to go i.e., inlaws, outlaws, grandparents and great grandparents, that I just decided to wait until they got finished at all those other places, that way we could have one whole day to spend together. We play a lot of games, and have so much fun!
I wrap and use gift bags, I wrap until I am sick of doing it, then get out the gift bags.

My little round dry spots started when I was breastfeeding. Dermo called it psorasis. She said hormone related. Anyway My FAV is Charlie and Lola! And my Most hated is Handy Manny. I dont know why! Maybe bc I cant get that darn song out of my head. I didnt really like Yo Gabba at first either but the Jack Black episode was good and my boys like it!

I am a wrapping queen but Santa always brings us big things that cant be wrapped. LY was a tricycle and TY is a big art easel. I'm going to use your questions abut Christmas on my blog this week. Stay tuned...
tincangypsies.blogspot.com
White lights for sure!

Have a great week and sleep well, Rena

I hope you are feeling better today. My daughter has been sick the past 2 days and when she's sick I don't get any sleep.

Yea, for putting up your tree. I remember so well the years of having ornaments only from the top to the middle of it. Santa wraps our presents too. But growing up, my Santa didn't. I like to watch them wonder:)

Oh, I absolutely love your blog! what a beautiful baby girl you have!!

I'm now a follower so add another donation. :) Also, thanks for stopping by my page and have a Happy SITS Sunday. :)

God Bless!

http://carrigansjoy.blogspot.com/

Thanks for stopping by on my SITS day it is nice to meet you. Have a wonderful holiday season :)

We dig Imagination Movers too! lol Can't help it, they're so catchy. I hope you feel better soon!!!

Thanks for visiting my blog! :D

Yes, Rich is why I sit and watch the Movers with my kids instead of getting something done while they're occupied!
