Wow, I am cramming a LOT into one post... is your seat belt buckled? Then let's go!

-Does anybody else hear "Friday Fragments" and think of this:

-I saw an extremely disturbing commercial this week from the Michelin tire company. It featured a bunch of animated animals-- bunnies, squirrels, raccoons-- as road kill. Only the French would find that appropriate (no offense if you're French).
-Does anyone else watch "Mad Men"? I just started watching Season 1 on DVD a few weeks ago (plodding my way through it during G's naptimes). I like it a lot, but it's bugging me, too. No, not all the infidelity or even the outdated anti-women remarks... the chain smoking! It makes me wonder if the actors and actresses are really lighting up in every scene, or just "fake-chain-smoking"...
-About two weeks ago, DH hit me in the left temple with a dessert plate (not on purpose, it was a total accident). Ever since, my left eyelid has been having "seizures" several times a day. I'm not sure if it's connected, but I plan on using it to milk DH for some pampering.
-In another "ailment", I think I'm getting carpal tunnel. My job forces me to spend hours and hours typing, and I'm wondering if I can get workman's comp, and maybe take the entire month of December off to "recover"? No, I do not think my excessive blogging habit has ANYTHING to do with it.
-I have the day off today (it's my "compensation" for working on Black Friday morning), and I think I'm going to take G to a "blow up junglegym". That's either a recipe for fun or for disaster with an almost 15-month-old.
-I decorated my entire house for the holidays on Thanksgiving... except for the tree. And now, one week later, it is still not up, and I have no immediate plans to do so. I've seen the way G manhandles other, kid-friendlier elements of my holiday decor... and I'm terrified. I'm wondering whether it would scar her (or me!) for life if we skipped the tree this year for safety purposes.
Shifting into second gear with Mama M's...

This week's questions are:
1. Favorite gift you are GIVING this year?
Ooooh, that's a tough one. I WAS going to say the Winnie-the-Pooh chair we got for G, but then I remembered the photo calendar I ordered for my mom. She is going to LOVE it. It's a toss up.
2. How many parties are you attending between now and Christmas?
I think right now just two, and both are "baby themed". DH & I were going to throw a big holiday party, but it was just too much this year!
3. What is your favorite Christmas song?
This is an easy one-- Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You". I plan on writing a post about exactly why later this month.
4. Who was your favorite elementary school teacher and why?
Mrs. Sears. She was my third grade teacher, and I still remember being told by all the fourth graders on the bus on the first day that she was mean. She was mean, but she really knew how to get you excited about learning. My whole family adored her, and to this day, my grama still grades papers for her!
5. If you had a choice to live in any other period of time (other than now) what era would you choose and why?
Well, I like indoor plumbing and electricity, so it would have to be fairly recently. I would have to say the 1950's. I've already talked about my new obsession with Mad Men, and that's definitely playing a role in this answer!
The announcement you've all been waiting for...

i love that your post just made me think about fraggle rock! and i've been meaning to get into mad men. everyone's talking about it!
love your blog- i'm a follower now :)
My kids are older and watching them handle certain Xmas things is quite disturbing for me. Unfortunately it is not until they are adults that I will cease to worry about how they handle decorations that belonged to my mother!
From now on I'm going to make that connection to Fraggle Rock, too. I miss that show! Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with skipping a tree. For safety reasons, I did the same when my kids were little. She is adorable!
Mad Men is the BEST SHOW EVER. You will totally fall in love with the characters, for the good & the bad. I have a serious crush on Don Draper even though he's kind of a scum bag. Enjoy!
I hear ya with the Christmas tree!! We put our stuff up last week, but one side of my tree kept looking bare... I found all of the ornaments Ivy was stealing off in the end table drawer... at least she's past the "chewing on ornaments" phase.
We always linked up our baby gates around the tree. It kept the dogs away from it too.
Good luck!
Congrats to the winners!!
That picture of your daughter is precious...she is such a doll!!
And last, but not least...they need to bring Fraggle Rock back!! I miss it!!
Loved FraggleRock!!!
I think Fraggle Rock too! Frag in any form makes me hear the music.
Down in Fraggle Rock!
I loved Fragglerock to! I havent even thought about it in such a long time! It was the best.. anywho Is you little one into mickey?! I saw the pic with her and that mickey and it reminded me so much of my little girl. She adores mickey :)
I love fraggle Rock, Mariah's song, my third grade teacher and the 1950's. Seriously, are we related??
Thank you so much for the giveaway, I'm so excited! :-)
~HB
no tree here either-I have the same fear as you-I'm not sure what my 18 month old will do with all the ornaments!
We give photo calendars every year and everyone loves them and looks forward to them.
Thanks for stopping by my blog-yes that's a Hess truck-don't tell your husband or my mother in law-I think she thinks they are collectibles too but my son loves to play with it-I'm not sure who put the stickers on or when but I thought it was funny. I'm guessing you already have this year's race car-that looks pretty neat!!
I love indoor plumbing, too! Haha... great answers. Also, you'd be surprised how well your tree will do if you put it up - I thought for sure my boys (especially my 22 month old!) would totally destry the tree this year, but they are very good and not that interested in touching it, surprise, surprise!
Crap. Now I'm singing 'Down in Fraggle Rock'. I'm going to have to Google the words because all I know are...um...those. ;p
I know that it would be much wiser of me to NOT have a tree, but I'm going for it. I'm clearly a glutton for punishment. I had a Superyard and returned it because it was ugly. I kinda would like it back, now. I could cage the tree.
I remember very few of my elementary school teachers...just the last two. One was arrested for shoplifting when my ex-husband worked in retail. Lovely! She's not my favorite, needless to say.
We have the same favorite Christmas song!
I always do think of Fraggle Rock when I'm thinking Friday Fragments... :)
I keep forgetting about Mad Men...I suppose I should start watching it, I hear it's really good!
I'd definitely be milking some extra pampering after the accidental dessert plate incident... ;)
I ended up having carpal tunnel surgery a few years ago on both hands - after years of working at non-ergonomic keyboards. I wish I had thought of worker's comp and had the surgery while I was still ensconced in Corporate America! ;)
When Princess Nagger was young like G, we would still put up a tree because the lights and decorations always fascinated her (and seemed to have a calming effect on her). But I used to only decorate the top half of the tree and make sure only unbreakable decorations were potentially within reach. She only stole a few ornaments off the tree in the early years, now she has fun putting the decorations on and then rearranging them... often. ;)
Thats one of my fav xmas songs too! I have her whole cd pretty good!
I was thinking the 50's too!! It was a toss up between the 20s and 50s!!
Last year was the first year we put all of our ornaments on the tree since my son was born in 2002. We did put up the tree every year, but we only put super soft ornaments on the bottom. Read, non breakable . . . I would have missed a tree too much. I am writing a post next week about the value of teachers and was just thinking about a couple of my favorites. I heart great teachers!!
Ouch! That dinner plate incident had to hurt! Would love a visual on how that happened..... ;-)
And the carpal tunnel thing has NOTHING to do with blogging! Has nothing to do with my insomnia lately either! ;-)
Love that picture of your baby.
I'm totally following you now, if for no other reason then to see that upcoming post about Mariah Carey you promised.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Every once in a while my eye brow will have tiny seizures constantly. I've been told it's from a lack of sleep. It is very agitating though.
Hi Elizabeth,
It's so nice to meet you! Happy Saturday Sharefest to you as well. Thank you so much for your kind vissit to my blog. You are always welcome anytime my friend!
What a precious daughter you have! Oh my goodness look at that beautiful blonde hair and adorable smile. You are a blessed family!
Hope to see you again soon!
Many Blessings, ~Melissa :)
Just popped by from another blog! I loved Fraggle Rock as a kid, and now will thnk of that in conjunction as well!!
Ah, Fraggle Rock...your post brought back sweet memories. Thanks!
YAY!! I've not logged on for a couple of days! So imagine what an incredible surprise to see that I WON!
Thank you. Have a blessed weekend :)
Jilien
Oh my, that shot of your daughter and Mickey is too stinkin' adorable. I say, tie the tree to the wall and go for it. With non breakable and squishy ornaments, just in case.
Sorry about your eye, but yes, milk it girl.
Stopping by from SiTS!!
I don't think, at that age, she's going to notice whether you have a tree or not! Maybe you could get one of those dinky ones, and put it out of reach on a shelf somewhere. One of my friends had a kitten last year, and a massive tree, and the kitten took all the decorations off the bottom couple of feet! And I reckon toddlers can reach further than kittens....
Thanks for dropping in on my blog - I guarantee that recipe is really easy, so I hope you do feel brave enough to give it a go :) Shout me if anything isn't clear.
I have YET to watch "Mad Men" and for the life of me I do not know why. I love the '50s so much - the fashion, the etiquette, the music!
Welcome to the SITS community!
I saw Jon Hamm on the Today Show a while back and he explained that it is some type of fake cigarette that they are "smoking" - I was relieved to hear this!!
How neat that your grandmother still grades papers for your former teacher!
Welcome to SITS! I know that you will enjoy being a part of this vibrant community of bloggers!
I LOVE Fraggle Rock!
Stopping by to welcome you to SITS! It's great to have you in the SITStahood!
I am also very disturbed by that Michelin commercial. That one and the Garmin commercial with the scary clown freak me out just a tad!
Oh, how I miss Fraggle Rock! I haven't gotten in to Mad Men, but everyone at work always talks about it!
I came by to welcome you to SITS. We're happy to have you with us!
So how long do you guess I'll have Fraggle Rock stuck in my head now?
Those photo calendars are great!!
I have been treeless for Christmas a few times in my life. I've hated it. I now have a small condo and I have a tabletop tree. This is better than nothing and it's easy to decorate :) but I will not go without a tree again.
I came by way of Friday Fragments. :)
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I checked out some of your posts and they are good. Looks like I found someone else to follow!!
Your daughter is adorable and so is Ducky. :)
Just got the tree up yesterday--PHEW!!!! you did pack alot into one psot--LOL! fun reading!
She'll never know. :) It's probably the same for presents; just give her an empty box wrapped in pretty paper, and it will entertain her for at least ten minutes, haha.
Am I the first to mention how small your font is? Am I the only aged being who has to squint to see it? Jeez, I hope not. :( I'd hate to think I'm just getting OLD!
I've never seen MadMen, but I've been hearing a lot about it. One more thing to get addicted to :)
