Truthful Tuesdays-- Body Wars

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom

This week, I am tying in my Truthful Tuesday to Mama M & Keely's "Hot & Healthy Through The Holidays". If you haven't been over to either of their sites, I urge you to check them out (of course, after reading my post!).

And since I'm going to participate in their Blog Hop today, I'm going to forsake creating my own MckLinky-- but you're still invited to grab my button and play along on your own blog, as well as leave a comment to share your answer with me!

Today's question is:

Which part of your body are you least satisfied with?

I think this is a connundrum most moms deal with... and if you don't, then consider yourself among the lucky few! For me, it's an easy answer, but one that has changed over the past year.

Had I posed this question a year ago, I would have said my arms. As a former competitive swimmer, I've always had a bulky muscular body. I had such broad shoulders for my entire teen years (and most of my 20s) that I had to buy tops a size or two bigger, even though that meant they often didn't fit my waist. When I stopped swimming, my arms and shoulders lost a lot of that bulk muscle, and simply became flabby, which was even worse.

Fortunately, having a baby (well, not the actual process of having a baby, but rather, being a parent to a young child) has given my arms new purpose. Since I'm a rather, er, clingy mom who adores lugging her 22-pound child around on her hip, I've managed to lose a lot of that arm flab (you know, the kind that waves goodbye even if you're not) over the past year. Thank you, G!

But, as with most women, my eye of disdain has found a new focus: my butt. Basically, I don't have one. Maybe this isn't a good gripe, but in a day and age when J-Lo's booty is plastered on every magazine and Megan Fox's curves are lauded on E! TV, being buttless is an actual affliction. My jeans sag, my skirts slump, and it makes me look like a teenage boy, not a 27-year-old woman. My unproportioned butt also makes my legs look heavy and stocky.

See the proof below (and *yes*, I am sucking in my stomach like you wouldn't believe)...
One of these things is not like the other...

So, in the spirit of "Hot & Healthy Through the Holidays", I am vowing to do something about it! I spent a little time googling (because really, who can afford a personal trainer these days?) exercizes geared to amping up my rump. I pledge to do at least three sets of...

Walking Lunges
Squats
Forward, Side, & Rear Kicks
Jumping Lunges
Jumping Squats

...at least three times a week between now and the holidays. You saw my "before" picture above... if all goes well, I'll post an "after" picture in January and maybe we'll see a difference. I already do cardio a few days a week (three if I'm lucky, but I admit it, I'm a slacker a lot of the time... including last week, when I only got to the gym twice).

At the very least, I'll get a good workout, burn a few calories, focus on fitness during a time of year I'd rather be thinking about pie, turkey, and cookies, and get a stronger, healthier body.

I guess now it's just time to get my rear in gear!

Now it's your turn: which body part are you least satisfied with? What (if anything) will you do to change it?

If I looked like that in a picture, I'd walk around in a bikini all day every day!! I would have to say the stomach, thighs, butt and legs for me!

It would have to be my love handles. I've lost a lot of weight lately, but I can't get rid of those love handles... Of course, they do come in handy sometimes...
BTW, my latest post is about the dangers of baby gates (at least the dangers that my children have discovered). Come see me at http://wifeofhousehubby.blogspot.com.

My bambino was giant and I have a very short torso. Needless to say, the old abs got stretched out. And no amount of working out will correct that wrinkly skin. Sigh. Good thing he's so darn cute. Ah ha

That is such wonderful news that the surgery was a smashing success! Put a huge smile on my face this morning!

About the body parts, for me, it's definitely my short, squatty legs. Unfortunately they haven't developed an exercise yet that will give you perfect proportions and long legs so I just do the best I can with the highest heels I can find without falling over!

Wahoo!! Thanks for joining in...You look good to me girl, but I totally here ya!

Also, you work, so kudos for you for even making it to the gym..

You rock!

I have the same syndrome... No butt! I hate it too! I might give some of those things a try and see if I can improve the junk in my trunk...LOL

Good luck this upcoming week girl!

Squats are a killer! But they work! Nothing like feeling some major burn the day after!

Ok, I definitely think you look great as is! I have a defined butt, albeit not as big as theirs, and it's not all it's cracked up to be (haha, get it?!).

Since little man is just 4 mos, it's my belly I'll be working on. And my boobs are a bit too big these days, but not much I can change about that until I stop nursing.

My stomach...for the same reason as the (un)experienced mom - my 2.5-week-old is more than worth it though!

Oh - I am SO not getting into that one. I have plenty of self loathing going on without writing about it :) Just stopping in to say "hi". Have a great week!

all of it - i want my 20 year old pre-child body back!

wah-ha-ha-ha

thanks for stopping by the crib

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Yes, those were over the knee boots! They're my favorite shoes of the season!

As far as your butt goes...girl, I have the same problem. I wish I could pump up my rump and make it look more Kim Kardash style, you know?

I have enough butt to share with everyone!

Dude...it's the muffin top that gets me! I've been workin' on it...kinda! But, I gotta say, you look smashing, my dear! Glad to have you along for the ride!

Hi I'm a newbie and wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your posts! Go head over to my spot, there's a special something there for you!

You can definitely have some of my butt if you want! I'll even throw in some hips for free! :)

My post baby belly... yuck! I had a great mid section pre babies. Those little gifts from heaven left me with stretch marks up to my ribcage.

I have an idea! Take two pictures, one of J-low, one of a ugly butt-less woman, put your own between them, and finally understand how lucky and beautiful you are.
