There's A First Time For Everything-- Defragging

Posted by: Confessions From A Work-At-Home Mom

GEEZ, I feel like a traitor...

Usually on Fridays, I look forward to doing Mama M's "Five Question Friday"-- but it's now the middle of the day, she's no where to be seen, and my fingers are dying to type it up on my blog!

So, in the spirit of trying something new, I am playing along with Mrs.4444's "Friday Fragments." Mama M, don't hate me!

Friday Fragments?

Now, I'm still learning the rules... and let me just admit, I never was very good with rules growing up. I once got kicked out of enrichment class in fifth grade because I cheated bent the rules... so if I break them, I'm sorry!

Like sands through the hour glass, here are the fragments of our lives...

I was listening to Dan Patrick's radio show this morning (isn't that what all working moms listen to on the way to work?), when I heard them talking about this Sports Illustrated article. Apparently, working moms are up for SI's sportsman (shouldn't the award be renamed, "sportsperson"?) award. DUH! Whether you're a 3-time Olympian like Christie Rampone or just a mom shuffling her kids to and front soccer practice, all moms deserve this type of recognition. AMEN! If you think all us "working moms" deserve to be SI's sportswomen of the year-- even if you only get as near a basketball as Sporty Spice-- then follow this link and make your voice heard!

I've been thinking a lot about blogging lately... why I do it, what's in it for me. Someone recently commented that my love of all things bloggy amounted to obsession compulsion narcissism... oh, whatever! Maybe it does. I mean, in a way, isn't writing about my life for the whole world (or just 184 of the BEST DARN READERS!) intensely voyueristic?

And while I'm thinking about it, time for a little shameless self promotion (because, again, isn't that what blogging is all about?). I have been working my poor little fingers to the bone (evidence? I had to chop off my lengthy fingernails because they were making it problematic for me to hack away at my keyboard). For what, you ask? Well, my new blogging-buddy Julia and I are planning something big for the new year. I don't want to give anything away... or maybe I do... maybe we want to give away a LOT of stuff! So stay tuned for more!

I just got passed over for a promotion... again. This marks the second time in 18 months that I've lost out on the same position in my newsroom. There have been very good reasons both times. The first time, I was literally about to take five months off to have a baby; both my boss and I knew it wasn't the right time in my life. This time, I can blame my husband. He works overnights, and the promotion would entail me working overnights, too. That doesn't quite add up when you have a toddler in the house! So, I'm not insulted... but to say that I wasn't completely bummed out disappointed when my boss informed me of the new hire would be a lie. This whole episode has just made me realize that if I'm going to move up in the business world, it won't be here. Le sigh.

Well, I think that's it for right now. That was fun! Maybe if I can really budget my time well (that's a laugh!) I can do both this and Mama M's blog hop next Friday... oooh, I'm off work next Friday for Turkey Day (sorta)... that's a definitely possibility!

Thanks for your comment on my blog- it made me feel better :-)

Welcome to Friday Fragments- it's my favorite post to write every week, I always have fun reading others too!

Sorry about the promotion. I'm realizing at my job that it's probably a dead end, but I'm trying to use it as motivation. Still... it sucks.

Moms are DEFINITELY the sportswomen of the year!

I'm sorry about that you can't get the promotion you want. I hope that's not a forever thing.

Looking forward to the fun of your giveaways!

Work can really drive us nuts, huh?

Sorry about the promotion, but I'm quite sure it will happen for you!

Have a great weekend!!

You have to do Mama M's this week... its really a fun one! I def agree we deserve all kinds of awards and then some. Being a mommy is the by harder than I ever thought it would be but at the same time the most rewarding and best job their is!! Cant wait to see your answers later to 5QF ;)

Blogging for me is the ONE place in the world the weatherman is afraid to stick his nose in to. He follows me on twitter and FB so the fun gets toned down a lot. Blog is my area, my rules, and if the rest of the wold doesn't like it, they can bite it!! I hope once I get this semesters classes done, my goal in a week and a half, that I can play in more bloggity friends reindeer games, such as this!

I had to trim my nails this week too, got in the way of y tweeting while on my BB, I'm pathetic, I know!

I'm so sorry about you getting passed over for your promotion. I haven't had a "real" job since little dude was born as the weatherman works rotating shifts at the Weather Service. Hugs to you for your sacrifice for the betterment of "G" just remember when you are down the most you are doing it for her. You rock for that and many other reasons!

I'll be watching closely! I love the giveaways...
Love of all things bloggy doesn't have to mean obsessive, compulsive or narcissistic... It can just be that you enjoy making new friends. You can come right back at them and ask why do you facebook or twitter?!
I personally just have too much to say to twitter away with one line comments... I'm just by nature a blogger... not a twit.

I totally think you should be sportwoman of the year! You go girl!

Welcome to Friday Fragments! Thanks for stopping by my blog. G is a little cutie! :)

Yeah! You're fragging! So happy you joined the fun on this one! I love it b/c I can get out all that stuff that isn't post-worthy, but needs an escape! I love being so random anyhow!

Sorry that you got passed up. That really sucks. I was about to get promoted when I had my first little guy and they kind of held off on it when they found out I was pg. They said it wasn't b/c of that, but I know it was. I am sure you're super bummed, but I bet a new and better opportunity to move up with come along (and one that works with your schedule!).

Excited to hear about the new things you have planned for the near year! I've been contemplating some changes/ideas/bigger things, too, but not doing much about it right now. :-(

SI Sportswomen of the year - AMEN!

I am sorry you didn't get the promotion. It stinks sometimes, that we have to give up stuff because we are a mom. I hope another one comes your way that is even better!

All of my posts are fragments! Ha! Bummer that the promotion didn't pan out, but the right thing will show up at the right time and it will all be, well, right! And I can't wait to see what's coming! I've been thinking about a giveaway, but haven't decided yet....

I'm sorry you were passed up again!!! I know how that feels. I had that happen to me and it hurts and sucks and all that stuff in one :o) I had never heard of fragging, maybe I will have to give it a try. Mama M sure did take forever to post today....I sat and waited forever.

Sorry about the promotion...I've been there too and it's frustrating. In hindsight (in my case) it was a good thing. It pushed me to look at options beyond where I was at and lit a fire under me to "prove" my worthiness. While my current work situation is not ideal (is anyone's really?), it's SO much better now than it was when I was "passed" up.

Sorry to hear about the promotion, that is so sad! I mean its great that you understand the reasoning behind it, but still sad that you didn't get it, or something equavilant.

I just did a post on why I blog! Funny. At any rate, I think that it is awesome that you do blog. I love being able to interact with the outside of my house world, and regardless of their reasons, I love meeting new people, etc. Keep it up!

Can't wait to see what you have going on in 2010!

i feel blogging allows me to share what I may not otherwise

I know, I know...Kohls on black friday- lost my head. I didn't even buy a thing because the lines were literally wrapped around the store. Ridiculous!

Sorry you missed the promos...but you are right, they were for good reasons.

There are several positions in my department that I would like to work but due to the rotating/afternoon/midnight/unpredictable schedule, it just won't work for me with two little ones at home.

I know it's hard and we feel torn at times between our career and our family, but in the end, I think we know in our hearts what the right decision is. This might be a blessing in disguise for you.

See, the fragment format just so works for my ADHD brain. Random, like me! Sqeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

Heh, heh! I've had the same sort of comment made to me about blogging, too. Either that or they have a blank look like I'm speaking a foreign language. :)

I'll be keeping an eye out for your giveaways for sure! :)

Sorry about you not getting promoted again. Hopefully something even better will work out instead! ;)

Happy FF! :)

Welcome!! You're a pro already! The "rules" are pretty simple--all you have to do is link back to HPKT. Beyond that, creativity is welcomed :)

I think it's interesting that you say that YOU were passed over for a promotion, when in fact, you passed on the promotion; they just didn't fit with where you are in your current plan. When the time is right, I'm sure you'll land the best job for you.

Don't be afraid to let me know when you roll out the big giveaway!
